Dear Student,
As you make your way to campus for the start of the academic year, we are sharing a couple of important reminders from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and other state offices.
|
-
Due to height restrictions for low-clearance bridges, moving trucks, box trucks, and moving vans are not allowed on several parkways in Greater Boston, including Storrow Drive and Soldiers Field Road in Boston and Memorial Drive in Cambridge. If you plan to drive one of the vehicles mentioned, please seek alternate routes.
-
While the Sumner Tunnel is closed for restoration until August 31, 2023, there are potential delays traveling to and from the East Boston/Logan Airport area.
|
Following is more information from MassDOT to help you plan ahead. We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
All the best,
Student Life team
|
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), has prepared the following menu of mitigation items and tools to help travel through the region during the full closure:
|
-
Travelers from Logan are encouraged to “Ditch the Drive” and use one of many public transportation options. Visitors from Logan Airport can take the Silver Line, Blue Line, Logan Express, or ferry to several locations in the Boston area.
-
Visit Mass511 for live traffic reports by calling 511 (toll-free) or visit Mass511.com.
-
MassDOT’s Sumner Tunnel Travel Time Dashboard is a tool that can be used to help plan trips in, out, and around East Boston and Logan during times that avoid traffic congestion and delays.
|
As a reminder, state officials from the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), MassDOT, and Massachusetts State Police (MSP) are reminding college students, residents, and others of height restrictions along several parkways in the Greater Boston area as they move-in to residence halls, apartments, and other living spaces. These parkways include Storrow Drive and Soldiers Field Road in the City of Boston, and Memorial Drive in the City of Cambridge, which are restricted to “cars only” and have height restrictions as low as nine feet in some locations. Moving trucks, box trucks, and moving vans will exceed this height limit and drivers of these vehicles should seek alternate routes.
