As the semester gets close to ending and you start to prepare for final exams, I wanted to remind you about your options for Spring 2020 classes.
Excused Withdrawal (EW)
Students may still be eligible to receive an EW with a refund via myGateway. The deadline for an EW is May 17, 2020 for 16-week courses and the last day of class for courses that are less than 16-weeks in length. You will not be able to select the EW option if your class has ended or already been graded. To take an EW in a class, use the following steps:
- Log in to myGateway
- Click on “Registration Tools”
- Click on “Add or Drop Classes or purchase parking, AS or ID”. Then select Cypress College
- Select “Spring 2020”
- Under “Action” select “Excused Withdrawal”
- Click “Confirm Your Choices” on the bottom left of your screen
I strongly recommend that you first speak with your instructor to determine if choosing and EW is the best option for you. As with any decision that alters your educational plans, I also recommend that you speak with a counselor to review the effect an EW will have on your academic progress. To reach a counselor, please visit the Counseling Department’s website and follow the instructions to speak with a counselor.
Because students who choose an EW are eligible for refunds, please be sure to speak with a financial aid representative if you receive financial aid to determine the impact an EW will have on your eligibility to receive future financial assistance. To reach the Financial Aid Office, please visit the Cranium Café.
Refunds for EWs will be mailed approximately 2 to 4 weeks after your withdrawal is processed. To update your mailing address, please complete the Personal Information Change form and email it to admissions@cypresscollege.edu with a picture of your Student ID card or a non-expired, government-issued ID.
Pass/No Pass (P/NP)
Students may choose the P/NP grading option in myGateway for Cypress College classes. The deadline for a P/NP is 17 May 2020 for 16-week courses and the last day of class for courses that are less than 16-weeks in length. You will not be able to select the P/NP grading option if your class has ended or already been graded. However, if you take a course P/NP this semester, you will be able to repeat that class in a future semester for a grade if you wish. To choose the P/NP grading option for classes, use the following steps:
- Log in to myGateway
- Go to “Registration Tools”
- Click on “Update Grade to Pass/No Pass”
- Use the dropdown box to choose “Pass/No Pass”
- Click the SUBMIT button the bottom of the page
I recommended that you first speak with your instructor before you decide to take any of your classes as P/NP to help you determine if it is the best option available to you. After you speak with your instructor, I also recommend that you speak with a counselor to discuss the potential impact the P/NP grading option will have on your academic progress and your plans for transfer or employment.
To reach the Counseling Department, please visit the Counseling Department’s website and follow the instructions to speak with a counselor.
I hope you find this information helpful as you enter the final stretch of the Spring 2020 semester. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration at Cypress College, I applaud you for coming this far and hope you will stay on your path. If there is anything more we can do to help, please let me know. We take this journey together!
Best,
