UCM recently updated their email signature generator tool to feature updated branding with the arched OHIO logo. The pre-designed signature is designed and formatted for most email systems. Update your signature today!

To avoid confusion and clean up the node editor in Drupal, later this week the UCM web team will remove the extra set of the Publish state dropdown field and Save buttons (screenshot below). The set of these items in the right sidebar will stay, and we will be removing the extra set at the very bottom of the content in the node editor.

An editing freeze for Profiles will be in place starting May 18, ending in mid-August, on all profiles to avoid losing content updates as profiles are migrated to the new Directory website. In order to make updates ahead of this freeze, submit your profile updates by EOD Friday, May 1. (This is a great time to review headshots and provide new/higher-resolution images, as well! The new image will display as a square. Make sure your image is at least 800px by 800px.)

Updates needed to profiles during the freeze should be submitted to UCM through the Profile Updates Request Form, and requests should be limited to substantive and urgent updates such as the departure of a faculty or staff member that necessitates the removal of a profile or a significant promotion or reassignment.

Additionally, you are welcome to submit less substantive changes to profiles over the summer, such as refreshed photos or additional publications or biography information. Those updates will be incorporated with the launch of the new profile pages in August.

In this move, all student profiles will be eliminated as the new site will be framed as an employee directory. You may hear from the UCM web team as they work through these instances. The UCM web team also can provide consultation with any Drupal editors that have questions or concerns about their student profiles, and can offer alternative elements to use such as Anchored Spotlights or more simplified listings. Feel free to stop by an Open Lab or schedule a consultation with Shelli Minton if desired.

Profiles in this new website will have new URLs. Any faculty or staff member who has shared their profile URL on business cards or other materials are encouraged to submit a profile redirect request and we will redirect their current profile ot the new one in the mid-August launch.

These actions improve the usability and accessibility of our websites for all users, as well as ensure Ohio University is legally compliant.

Any documents linked from the website must be submitted through UCM to be reviewed and uploaded to Drupal. We are no longer using SharePoint for website document storage. There are very few exceptions to this, and the editors involved know they have exemptions. If you have any questions about your documents, please reach out to Shelli Minton (or come to an Open Lab).

The UCM web team will continue to monitor document usage and reach out to site managers as needed. Please continue to review your document spreadsheet and make sure a plan of action is recorded for each document to ensure we remain in compliance.

This short, practical course focuses on the everyday decisions that make the biggest difference—headings, lists, links, tables, color, images, and audio/video. Each module is designed to be quick, hands-on, and easy to apply in the tools you already use.

The full course takes approximately an hour and a half to complete in one sitting, but you can take modules independently as they fit into your schedule.
