Poetry Out Loud Champion, Lifelong Learner

For Jesca Gilbert ('21), Poetry Out Loud means a lot more than memorization and recitation. Through it, she has the opportunity to travel the country, learn more about herself through the influence of poets, and represent Valor on the national stage.
Read more about the Spoken Word presence at Valor and how it produced our first state champion in Poetry Out Loud.

Worship Band to Teach, Perform Alongside Valor Students

The week of April 8, worship band We The Kingdom will visit Valor classrooms and recording studios to work alongside our Arts+Media students.
The band is formed by Ed Cash, a well-known and admired producer, songwriter, engineer and multi-instrumentalist. He was named 'Producer of the Year' at the Gospel Music Awards for four consecutive years (2004–2007) and gained recognition for his work with recording artist Chris Tomlin.
The week culminates in a community-wide concert of music and worship on Friday, April 12 in which some of our top recording students will perform alongside We The Kingdom

Campus Safety and Security Update

We wanted to update you about a significant enhancement to the safety and security of our campus. Beginning April 1, the main entrance doors to the Academic Building will be locked during regular school hours.

Students, faculty and staff will use their proximity card to gain entrance. Visitors, including parents, will use a video intercom that allows our front desk staff to unlock the door remotely. Clearly visible signage will direct visitors to the location of the intercom and the protocol for checking in at the front desk for campus visitation.

Historically, Valor has maintained open access to our campus through our main Academic Building lobby, while restricting access to the rest of our facilities by requiring a proximity card to unlock the main entry doors.

However, to ensure the safety and security of everyone on our campus, including our parents and visitors, we have decided at this time to restrict access at every entry point.

Thank you for your partnership in the continued safety of our students and staff. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact Tige Watson, Director of Student Experience.

Discovery Prayer and Worship Tonight

In preparation for the first Discovery teams leaving on March 14, Discovery is hosting a night of prayer and worship in the Small Gym tonight at 6:30 pm. Come join to pray for all of the Discovery teams and the school as a whole.

Course Request Week April 8-11

From April 8-11, returning students (freshmen, sophomores, and juniors) will be submitting their course requests for the 2019-2020 school year. Instructions and information about this process are located here, and students will receive information through Schoology on Tuesday.
If a student has a question about course decisions, freshmen students should dialogue with their 9th Grade Seminar Teacher. Sophomore and junior students can contact their Academic & College Counselor and also be in communication with their current teachers. Please take some time as a family to read through all of the information provided over Spring Break and Practicum week.

Parents Book Club Signups

Lead College and Academic Counselor Sheila Beckie will be hosting a book club for all Valor parents and friends starting on April 3. The group will meet on Wednesdays from 1:15-2:45 pm to read and discuss two books: Colleges that Change Lives and Looking Beyond the Ivy League by Loren Pope. To join, please email Sheila

Music, Fire, and Physics: A Classical Experiment

Over Christmas Break, Daniel Soby ('19) decided to research vibration and oscillations in nature. The final product was this - a homemade Ruben's Tube that shows how musical soundwaves animate flames! You can see it has captured the rapt attention of Dr. Gary Fisher, Director of Academics, and physics teacher Joany Tisdale.

Veritas, Poms, and Conservatory Dance Auditions

This year we are taking a comprehensive approach to auditions and tryouts for our top dance groups: Veritas, Competitive/Poms and Conservatory. This format allows us to assist families in understanding their dance options, while helping us understand each student’s desires and directing them to a program where they can thrive. We will conduct a series of four professional-level master classes to teach the choreography for auditions.

You can explore dance program offerings, the auditions schedule, and the dance application in the Valor Dance Brochure and Dance Audition Packet. We look forward to a high energy environment where students support each other well and honor God through dance!
