Entrance Fees for Craft & Draft Festival to be Donated to Matthew S. Brunner Memorial Scholarship Fund |
The Radford Craft and Draft Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, at Glencoe Mansion in Radford, and all entrance fees will be donated to Radford University’s Matthew S. Brunner Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The fund is named in honor of Matthew Brunner ’99, a 19-year employee of the university who served a long stint as registrar. Brunner, who passed away on Aug. 31, is remembered for his loyalty, leadership and compassionate spirit. In that same spirit, Radford University announced the Matthew S. Brunner Memorial Scholarship, which will serve as a lasting legacy of Brunner's commitment to student success.

Nationwide Emergency Alert Test Set for Oct. 4 |
FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) at approximately 2:20 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The national test will consist of two portions that will test WEA and EAS capabilities. The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cellphones. The test message will display in either English or Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions.
The testing ensures that the systems continue to effectively warn the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level.

RUC Nursing Programs Moving to RHEC |
The nursing programs at Radford University Carilion in Roanoke will move from Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital to the Roanoke Higher Education Center this December. Nursing students will begin classes at the higher education center in January 2024, at the beginning of the spring semester.
This move will only include nursing programs at RUC. This move will not impact nursing students on the main campus in Radford.
All graduate and undergraduate (junior/senior level) nursing faculty, students in levels 1 - 4 (upper division) and courses will be moving. First-year and sophomore nursing students will remain at RUC for all freshman- and sophomore-level courses, including pathophysiology.
| |
The move to the higher education center, located at 108 N. Jefferson St. in Roanoke, allows for additional instructional space for high-impact practices focused on student success, including laboratories and classrooms. Additionally, the School of Nursing Clinical Simulation Center in Roanoke is there on the first floor.
There is an increased demand for new nursing graduates, and the Radford University School of Nursing is dedicated to helping meet that demand while providing students with an engaging and interactive educational experience. The move will allow us to enroll more students in the nursing programs.
More details about the move and what it means for students, faculty and staff are included in an online set of Frequently Asked Questions.
For more information, contact Wendy Downey, interim dean of Radford University School of Nursing, at 540-831-7700 or wrdowney@radford.edu.

Hazing Prevention Training Requirement |
On July 1, 2022, amendments to the Code of Virginia that impacted the hazing prevention training required of universities were enacted by the General Assembly. Compliance with “Adam’s Law” requires particular club and organization officers and their advisors to attend in-person hazing prevention training. To maintain registered club status, student leaders must complete the training each year. All club and organization members and advisors are invited to attend training, but those who advise clubs that meet the following criteria are required to attend.
“Student organization with new members” means a student organization officially recognized by an institution of higher education structured in such a way that upon invitation for membership, individuals do not automatically become members of such organization and have a period of time between the invitation and initiation. “Student organization with new members” does not include any varsity intercollegiate or club athletic team.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Jen Rentschler, Director of Student Involvement, at jrentschler@radford.edu.
