Loves About Brebeuf
I really love Brebeuf’s value in academics. All the teachers are really good at what they do, and this allows me to have a deeper understanding of everything that I learn, which I really appreciate.
Future Plans
I know that I will be attending a college in Indiana like IU, Purdue or Notre Dame. I am planning on studying business but am also including science.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Tennis

Member of the Brebeuf Mentors Program
Random Facts
I have traveled to Pine Ridge, Oxford, Barcelona, and Belize - all with Brebeuf.
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.
I used to play the trumpet.
My Uncle Tom was a Spanish teacher at Brebeuf during the school’s early years.
You've obviously taken advantage of the many travel abroad opportunities offered at Brebeuf. Can you tell us more about those experiences, some of the main highlights, and why you would recommend them to other students?
All of my experiences throughout my time at Brebeuf have provided me with new perspective and insight into the world around me. Whether it was participating in a sweat lodge in South Dakota, taking classes at a renowned university, exploring the city of Barcelona, or getting to know the community in Punta Gorda, Belize, I was able to see just how big and diverse the world is - something that I am very grateful to have experienced in my formative high school career.
If you are ever able to travel with Brebeuf on any of these trips, I would highly recommend it. It is very impactful every now and then to step out of your comfort zone and really appreciate what’s out there.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
I just finished The Good Place and am watching Game of Thrones now. Both are great. Rick and Morty is probably my favorite show overall.
Where would you travel if time and money weren’t an issue?
I would travel anywhere with a clear ocean. I think Greece or Italy would be amazing. I also think Iceland is really cool, so I’d definitely go there if I ever got the chance.
What are some small things that make your day better?
When I do better than expected on a test or quiz.
When it’s sunny outside with a blue sky.
When I wake up in the middle of the night and look at the clock, and it’s not time to get up yet.
Any plans for Fall Break?
I am visiting Notre Dame for a day, but the rest of the time I will probably just relax. I might go to Indy Scream Park, or something like that.

Help Lance's Gift This Holiday Season

Lance's Gift, started by Brebeuf Jesuit freshman Lance Williams, is a nonprofit organization focused on helping the less fortunate - specifically the elderly and homeless in Indiana. With the help of volunteers and donors, they raise funds to provide needed items to a target population during the holiday season.
Lance's Gift launched in 2017 raising almost $3,000 to purchase more than 300 gifts for senior citizens living in Gary, IN. This year, they hope to provide even more gifts to the elderly of Indiana.
Please take a moment to hear from Lance in the above vide for how you can help out, or visit lancesgift.org to learn more.

Upcoming #BrebeufDrive

For our next #BrebeufDrive we will be coordinating our annual Help for the Holidays collection with the Catholic Charities Christmas Store.
Every year during the holiday season Catholic Charities sponsors The Christmas Store. More than 700 families in need will shop for Christmas gifts and clothing for their children. Donations of time, gifts and money help bring a brighter Christmas season for these families. In many cases, the gifts provided by the Christmas Store will be the ONLY Christmas items these families will receive. The results of these drives will provide gifts to a vast number of individuals and families, bringing additional joy for the holiday season
The gifts will be collected in homeroom classes starting Friday, November 1 and concluding Wednesday, November 28.
Any questions about the drive can be directed to Nick Klingler at nklingler@brebeuf.org.

Model UN Students Travel to Ohio Northern University

Members of the Brebeuf Jesuit Model UN team traveled to Ohio Northern University and competed in their first competition of the year. Brebeuf students had a great showing and took home a number of awards.
Students receiving conference honorable mentions include Xavier Porter, Casey Rector, Cam Durm (New Zealand), Caroline Todd, Sohaib Afzal, Carter Bice (Denmark) and Nadine Templeton, Nathan Nouri, and Grant Whitsett (Portugal). Caroline Todd also took home an individual award for "Distinguished Delegate."
Senior Nathan Nuori shares, "Model UN presents a learning opportunity that forces you to be empathetic and [understand other perspectives]. Not only that, Model UN helps to explain the benefits and flaws of democracy through an experience rather than a [classroom lecture]. The most important benefit...that it helps you to begin to formulate ideas on how to solve our world's most pressing issues."
Be sure to congratulate and celebrate these students as they continue to develop and showcase these skills.

Congratulations to Chad Smitson '19 and Neils Caspersen '19 on being named 2019 National Merit Program Commended Students

Two members of the class of 2019 have been recognized as Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Program - Neils Caspersen and Chad Smitson. Neils and Chad join the 6 students who were named National Merit Semifinalists earlier this month.
Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Congratulations, Neils and Chad!

Freshman Service Days for the Fall

Freshman Service Days are completely voluntary and do not count towards the Community Service credit at Brebeuf. They are offered each year to the incoming freshmen to help introduce them to the part of Brebeuf Jesuit's mission of being men and women for others, and it is our hope that it will start them on a path of service beginning before and going far beyond the hours which they are required to complete during their junior and senior years. This is also a great opportunity for freshmen to get to know more of their classmates outside of the classroom.
Freshmen can participate in one or all of the Freshman Service Days as space allows.  Class absences will be excused as long as permission slips are turned in 1 week prior to the trip.
Sign up by clicking here
Access the permission slip by clicking here
If you have any questions, please contact Nick Klingler at nklingler@brebeuf.org or 317.524.7005.
