UACS Programming

Join Bridges To Wealth on November 16th at 6:30 pm EST for a discussion around ~student loans~ in memory of Gregory Nesmith. The panelists will be there to answer all of your burning questions. They will tell you how to afford college, explain the difference between private and federal loans, and show you how to fill out FAFSA!

Bridges to Wealth is looking for dedicated community liaisons to help improve the quality of life in communities most affected by gun violence. This is a PAID opportunity made possible by the Anti-Violence Community Expansion Grant and open to middle school and high school students—preference will be given to residents living in the 19139 zip code.

The City of Philadelphia has released their newly designed tax website, which is now live. The Philadelphia Tax Center is where you can find, file, and pay most business taxes, including your Net Profits Tax, Liquor Tax, and Beverage Tax.

University of Pennsylvania students voted in unprecedented numbers during the 2020 presidential election, achieving record-high voter turnout during a semester taught fully online in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

School District of Philadelphia Updates
The School Selection Process allows students who are entering Kindergarten through the 12th grade to apply to a school other than their Catchment School, the school that connects to your family’s home address.  Students can apply to up to five (5) different School District of Philadelphia Schools.

Young Quakers Community Athletics Returning to In-Person Sports

Young Quakers Community Athletics (YQCA) has returned to in-person sports practices with masks and social distancing. They are so excited to be back on the field/track/court! Due to new cohorting guidelines created to increase safety measures, each YQCA sport is offered at two UACS schools this fall. Middle school lacrosse is currently offered at Comegys and Lea Elementary Schools on Tuesdays and Fridays. Middle school track and field is offered at Comegys and Hamilton Elementary Schools on Thursdays. 

New to YQ this year, Elementary basketball is offered at Lea and Hamilton Elementary Schools twice per week (days vary based on school).

YQCA Enrollment Information:

1. Complete the online UACS enrollment form HERE.
2. After completing the UACS enrollment form, contact the site director at your UACS school to confirm receipt of your student's enrollment and let them know your student is interested in participating in YQCA!

University-Assisted Community School (UACS) Afterschool Instructor

The Netter Center’s university-assisted community schools (UACS) is a strategy to educate, engage, empower, and serve all members of the community in which the school is located and engage students (K-16+) in real world, community problem solving.  UACS collaborates with partners to advance teaching, research, learning and service, as well as the civic development of their students. 2021-2022 Young Quakers Community Athletics Boys Lacrosse Coach

The YQCA Boys Lacrosse Coach will be responsible for practice planning and facilitating sessions with Big Quakers (Penn athletes) and UACS students (4th-8th grade students). Sessions will focus on Big Quaker and Young Quaker engagement and integrating life skill development into practice sessions. The YQ Boys Lacrosse Coach will be responsible for regular communication to the Big Quakers about practice plans and expectations. Click HERE for more information. 

2021-22 Young Quakers Community Athletics Track & Field Coach

The YQCA Track and Field Coach will be responsible for practice planning and facilitating sessions with Big Quakers (Penn athletes) and UACS students (6th-8th grade boys/girls). Sessions will focus on Big Quaker and Young Quaker engagement and integrating life skill development into practice sessions. The YQ T&F Coach will be responsible for regular communication to the Big Quakers about practice plans and expectations. Click HERE for more information. 

2021-2022 University-Assisted Community Schools (UACS) Sports Instructor

The UACS sports instructor will support sports practice sessions (basketball, lacrosse, track & field) and afterschool enrichment activities such as homework help and social/emotional skill building. The UACS sports program also partner with Young Quakers Community Athletics (YQCA), a partnership between the University of Pennsylvania’s Netter Center for Community Partnerships and Penn Athletics. YQCA creates mutually beneficial partnerships between select Penn intercollegiate athletic teams and West Philadelphia public schools. Click HERE for more information.
