Welcome      Grow       Serve      Celebrate

Our Wednesday evening 8 week re:treat resumes Wednesday, September 6 with a meal at 5:45 followed by activities at 6:20. We will kick everything off September 6 with intergenerational table talk and Beds for Kids (if it's not too hot) following our meal and draw to see who will get to go home with our “PHUMC Art for the Roof!”  Check next week’s newsletter for the rest of our Wednesday night plans. Prices are $9 for adults, $5 for kids 13 and under, and $27 maximum per family. We continue to ask that you RSVP by noon the Monday before so that we can be good stewards of our resources. You may RSVP here, call the church office, or place the bottom portion of your bulletin each Sunday in the offering basket.

PHUMC Art for the Roof

Parkway Hills family, you stepped up! To date we have raised $57,560.00 of our $60,000 goal. That means we only have $2,440.00 left! Some Parkway Hills members are sharing their artistic gifts to aid us in reaching our goal. Our quilters have donated a fabulous quilt, valued at $300 (or you can come to the quilt closet and pick out a quilt!). Charles Guess has donated one of his paintings (a 1' x 3' canvas valued at $600, but the winner is welcome to choose another of same value from Charles' huge collection). Judy Russell provided a beautiful birdhouse (value $100), and Bob Russell has given one of his handmade wooden bowls (value $80). You can purchase a ticket and possibly go home with some PHUMC Art for the Roof.

Tickets are $15 and we find out the lucky winners next Wednesday, Sept. 6 at our first Wednesday night meal together at 5:45. You do not have to be present to win and the art will be given in this order: 1st ticket = quilt, 2nd ticket = Charles Guess painting, 3rd ticket = Birdhouse, 4th ticket = Wooden Bowl. You can use this link to get a ticket and pay via our Vanco mobile app or online here (look for PHUMC Art for the Roof). You can also get paper tickets and give in person at the church. We hope you will invite coworkers, family, and friends to purchase a ticket. If every household sells 5 tickets, we will reach our goal and then some. Any extra funds we receive above the cost of the roof will be used for other building needs. We do best what we do together Parkway Hills, so let’s continue to work together to raise the roof!

Do you know the story of John Wesley?
Ever wonder what makes Methodism distinctive?  Beginning Sunday, September 10 @ 9:30 join Pastor Dawn for an adult confirmation experience looking at the story of the United Methodist Church. We will meet in the Renew room, second room down the hall, on the left, upstairs in the Education Building.

Popup Book Club Wednesday, October 18 @ 6:20 following our evening meal.  As we reflect on the wisdom of Scripture, I invite you to join me in reading “Things Hidden: Scripture as Spirituality” by Richard Rohr.  You can purchase the book on your own or if you like, signup here by noon Friday, September 8 and we will order one for you. Cost $23.

Caroline and Abigail Pickle donated over 40 jars of peanut butter to MadCAAP this week. The girls purchased the peanut butter with revenue from their lemonade stand last weekend. We are off to a great start collecting peanut butter for MadCAAP. So far we have collected 78 jars! Each week the children will count the jars and add "peanuts" to our jar collection in the garden. Our goal is to collect 500 jars this school year.

Help us "spread" the love. Bring your peanut butter jars to church.
We are in need of Extended Session volunteers. Extended Session is a time during the worship service that children explore and connect with scripture through activities, crafts and games. We offer Extended Session to children in K5 and younger. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Pastor Haven.
Sunday School Volunteers: We are currently studying the celebrations in the Bible. There are three Sunday School classes from PreK - 4th grade, and all need volunteers. We need 1st grade teachers for this Sunday; click here to sign up to teach. All volunteers must have a background check before volunteering in children's ministry.
