CABINET LETTER FROM DAVID HOLQUIN

Dear De La Salle Families:
This is the most challenging Spartan Spotlight I have written. I had planned to write one thing when I mulled over my letter weeks ago, but with the sudden passing this week of our fellow Spartan, sophomore Lucciano Castillo ‘26, all of that faded away quickly. And yet, the fragility of life cannot be escaped, nor should it consume us.
Dr. Alumbaugh shared with our President’s Cabinet this quote from Toni Morrison, which so aptly describes all we can do as parents: “The real liberation was the kids, because their needs were simple. One, they needed me to be competent. Two, they wanted me to have a sense of humor. And three, they wanted me to be an adult.” Wow! Somehow, our teenagers know it innately.
It was humbling how much our community rallied together: students and staff embraced one another; De La Salle and Carondelet students and leadership galvanized so that “two schools, one community” was more than a slogan; and our faith gave us context and hope amidst a trying time. Living our faith and Gospel values, especially when it is challenging, is the ultimate test, and as they so often do, our young people rose to the occasion. The song, Rise Up by Andra Day continues to stir in my soul because of them.

De La Salle Launches New Website
|
|
|
You may have noticed that our school website (www.dlshs.org) looks significantly different from what it did a week ago. The new design is the result of several months of work, and is intended to make our site easier to navigate. It also contains a bit more information about what makes our school so special.
Please note that, in the upper left corner of the home page, there is a dedicated dropdown menu just for our parents. These links offer shortcuts to information that our parents/guardians look for on a regular basis. However, if you don't see what you need, you can also use our keyword search bar on the far right.
We hope you enjoy the look and feel of our new site!

It's hard to believe that we are already in September. Only last month we were celebrating our new Lasallian students at a special liturgy and brunch on a beautiful summer day and holding our Mass of the Holy Spirit with Bishop Michael Barber of the Diocese of Oakland!
Things continue to be busy with Campus Ministry as we settle into September. We have our Sophomore Liturgy and Brunch this coming Sunday, as well as several other activities lined up. Click on the Spotlight on Campus Ministry button below to learn about our Father/Son Retreat, International Lasallian Days of Peace, our upcoming Ven a Ver trips, Kairos, and more.
