Gateway to the Future
Celebrating 50 Years of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences
| |
Earlier this week, the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences celebrated its 50th anniversary with a scientific symposium, "Gateway to the Future." The event brought together faculty, postdocs, students, scientific staff, MCSS alumni, emeriti, and distinguished guests from around the world to highlight five decades of groundbreaking research and discovery and to discuss priorities for the future of space science research.
| |
The symposium featured a series of scientific presentations where leading experts shared the latest developments in the space sciences, highlighting theory, experiments, and mission results. Complementing these talks was a poster session, providing researchers the opportunity to showcase their work and engage with attendees in more detailed discussions.
Beyond the academic discussions, the symposium served as a valuable platform for networking and collaboration. The social highlight of the event was a memorable dinner at the James S. McDonnell Planetarium on Wednesday evening, at which attendees enjoyed an excellent star show and celebrated the center's achievements and looked forward to the exciting future of space research.
Recordings of the sessions will be available.

Spencer Foundation Bridge Funding
In the face of recent abrupt shifts in federal funding for education research, including large-scale terminations of National Science Foundation (NSF) research grant awards, the Spencer Foundation has developed a rapid response bridge grant opportunity for impacted scholars, in collaboration with The Kapor Foundation, The William T. Grant Foundation, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. This rapid response bridge funding opportunity is for scholars and teams whose grants have recently been cancelled by NSF. Full proposal deadline: May 30.
