Dear UMKC students, faculty and staff,

Starting Saturday March 21, UMKC Libraries will provide all services online only. This includes the UMKC Leon E. Bloch Law Library. All physical facilities will be closed. The library will continue to provide online resources and services during this very challenging coronavirus situation. More details about these changes are provided below. You can reach UMKC Libraries via phone, chat, text or email for additional assistance.

Building hours and access
  • The Miller Nichols Library ground floor computer lab will be available from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., March 20 for UMKC students, faculty and staff. UMKC ID is required for entry.
  • The entire Miller Nichols Library facility will be closed indefinitely starting Saturday, March 21.
  • The UMKC Health Sciences Library is currently closed and will remain so indefinitely. 
  • The UMKC Writing Studio is now online only
  • LaBudde Special Collections, Marr Sound Archives and University Archives are closed to visitors. 
    • If you need access to collection materials, these departments will be providing digital copies on demand. Please be considerate in requesting materials as they are working with multiple classes and limited staff. UMKC students, faculty and staff will receive first priority. Requests from outside users will be addressed as time allows.
  • Consult the Law Library website for online services.

General physical collections
  • Patrons are asked to keep all checked-out books and the library will suspend any billing and fines for overdue materials. Any returned items will be held for five days prior to processing and re-shelving.
  • Interlibrary Loan is suspending borrowing physical materials from other libraries but will be providing online availability of materials when possible.
  • Scanning from the general library collections will not be available.
  • No physical materials are available for pickup.
  • Contact UMKC Libraries if you need assistance in finding alternate resources to meet your teaching, learning and research needs.

Reference and research assistance
  • Reference and research assistance will be provided online only. UMKC Libraries will provide the following options to meet with a librarian for assistance:
    • Chat is available 24/7.
    • Online meetings can be scheduled using Zoom.
    • Email

Computer labs on campus
  • Computer labs on campus may be open. You can check availability online, but we suggest you call first. 
  • Remote Labs provides a way to use some campus software online.

Library gifts and donations
  • During this time of reduced operations and increased risk, donors are asked to refrain from in-person donations at this time. Please email if you wish to make online donations, or set up a time for future donation drop-offs. For more information about donations to the library, you can visit the Giving page.

We encourage patrons to take advantage of the online collections and services, and to contact UMKC Libraries through phone, email, text or chat for assistance.
