The Brown County FoodWIse team participated in the 2024 GBAPS Community Partners Kickoff Meeting. During the meeting, FoodWIse connected with other great community partners. Our participation in this meeting helped us better understand the best practices to follow as a community partner of the Green Bay Area Public School District.
It is always amazing to see all of the great work happening around our community and how, through collective impact, we can intentionally engage to ensure the well-being of our community members.

FoodWIse taught a single lesson at the Farmers Market on Military using the Discover Farmers Market curriculum. Seven participants from Meadows North were able to participate and learn about using their EBT and Senior Vouchers at the Farmers market. Meadows North was able to contract transportation for its participants. They were able to transport seniors with all abilities by contracting services that could transport seniors who needed mobility assistance. The group met at the agency and discussed how we would utilize the Market, then ventured to the Market and met the staff and learned how to use their EBT card, double your bucks, and their Senior Vouchers. Seniors meet, talk to some vendors, and purchase items with the vouchers. Participants said they enjoyed the adventure and learning experience and were looking forward to using their fresh produce.

FoodWIse provides three nutrition education programs that support Encompass training annually for Encompass Foster Volunteer grandparents working directly with children of early childhood. Twelve foster grandparents attended the single Food Smarts session and considered, through personal experiences with food, cooking, and health, how to set goals for a healthier life. Grandparents prepared sweet potato burritos and learned how young children can help by tearing lettuce, stirring, or holding measuring spoons.
Food Smarts is a flexible, learner-centered cooking and nutrition curriculum with materials and lesson plans appropriate for adults. The curriculum was revamped in 2022 to align with trauma-informed principles and the most recent Dietary Guidelines.
