Angela's Wreaths

A journey that began in Scotland led to raising a family in Poughkeepsie and now includes a passion for creating beautiful wreaths.

Born and raised in Scotland, Angela remains proud of her heritage. At 20, she fell in love with an American, married him in Edinburgh, and moved to New York. In 1976, they built their home together in Poughkeepsie.

Angela has lived at Lutheran Care Center for five years and has spent the past decade creating beautiful wreaths. Inspired by the YouTube channel This Southern Girl Can, she works on her creations for several hours each day. Her daughter, Marisa, visits three times a week with new materials and helps when needed. You can find them together enjoying mother-daughter time in the Recreation Center.

Marisa shared that Lyme disease and babesiosis left her mother unable to use her legs and led to depression, requiring special care. They both agree that living at LCC feels like being surrounded by family, where “everyone is kind.”

Angela creates beautiful seasonal wreaths using deco mesh attached to a round metal frame, then adds decorations chosen with a thoughtful eye. She once made a wreath for a mother grieving the loss of her baby—an emotional project she approached with great care, adorning it with a cross and teddy bears. Her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit have helped her build a successful sales path. Residents, family members, and staff enjoy purchasing wreaths for Halloween, Easter, Christmas, and the fall and spring seasons, with fall and Christmas designs being the most popular. Most sell for $20, with a slightly higher price for more intricate designs or added materials.

When asked what she misses, Angela smiled and said, “I’ve been homesick for Scotland for 60 years!” She and her family have returned many times, sharing joyful trips to Edinburgh. Always “crafty,” Angela is grateful that LCC is now home—and that her wreath-making keeps her busy while bringing joy to others.

Her latest piece, a 4th of July Patriotic Clothespin Wreath, required extra care and attention. Stop by the LCC Living Room to see Angela’s newest creation!

Large Print Books Desired

Books and magazines are available for residents to borrow from the Recreation Center Library. The number of books available is limited, however, we are working to expand the offerings.   We are especially in need of large print material to help reduce eye strain and assist readers with low vision.  Books from a variety of genres are welcome.
Please contact Jeff Pryluck at jpryluck@tlcn.org with your donation and for suggestions for desired reading material. Thank you!

Outdoor Movie Night!

Family, friends, and the Eastdale Village Community are invited to enjoy a viewing of The Sandlot, a classic family comedy.  The new large, outdoor TV will be christened on Saturday, July 18th on the back parking lot.
