Winter Break Newsletter

Congratulations on finishing up the fall semester and to our graduating student veterans - job well done!!! All of us at the Office of Student Veterans hope that winter break is restful and we look forward to seeing you and your families in the spring. Before we sign off for the holidays, we wanted to pass along a few things to the student veteran community. We're excited to see you all in 2020!

Thank You, Anna!

The first order of business is to wish a big congratulations and thank you to our very own Anna Page, who has led many of the student veteran initiatives during her time here at Duke. As many of you know, Anna recently graduated from the Masters of Divinity program and will be working in the local area before serving as an active-duty Chaplain in the Army. To Anna - thank you for all that you have done for the student veteran community here at Duke. We will miss you and hope that you stay connected. Fair winds and following seas in your future endeavors!

Welcome, John!

We also wanted to take a moment and introduce our new graduate assistant in the Office of Student Veterans, John Pratson. John is currently earning his Masters of Public Policy at the Sanford School here at Duke and is a former Marine infantry officer. John served for over six years in a variety of roles, including operational deployments to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, the Indo-Pacific region, and as an instructor at The Basic School in Quantico, VA. John is the student point for contact for all student veteran issues here at Duke, so please feel free to reach out to him if you need anything!

Stay Tuned: Spring 2020 Welcome Back Event!

Please keep your calendars open for our welcome back event in the spring semester! We are hoping to host a Saturday afternoon watch party for a Duke basketball game and would love to see you all there. Stay tuned for more details!

Student Veteran Council: Join Now!

Interested in representing your program on the Student Veteran Council? The Office of Student Veterans will be convening a meeting in the spring semester and would love to hear from any of our current student veterans who may be interested in attending. For any questions or more information, please email John (our graduate assistant) at john.pratson@duke.edu

Ways to Connect

As a Reminder
Duke's Office of Student Veterans is here to support you – our students who have served or who are serving in the Armed Forces – and your families. As part of Duke's Division of Student Affairs, Duke Student Veterans offers support, resources, and community to our Student Vets, their families, and allies. We want to recognize that the holidays can be a difficult time for some. If this is a hard time for you, your family members, or a fellow battle buddy, please reach out for support. Duke offers support through the Counseling and Psychological Services office and immediate help is available through the Veterans Crisis Line  (1-800-273-8255, Press 1). As always, we are here if anything is needed. Have a restful break, and we will see you in 2020!
