We recently attended the Teaching Day hosted by GW's newly-renamed Center for Teaching Excellence and wanted to amplify a few resources from it for those who were unable to attend.
Due to inclement weather, the keynote speaker was unable to come in person to give two faculty sessions, but this may be your lucky break because those sessions have been rescheduled to be online, allowing many more to attend. On Thursday, March 20th Joshua Eyler, author of Failing Our Future: How Grades Harm Students, and What We Can Do about It and Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the University of Mississippi, will be giving both a masterclass on grading and a session for department chairs and program directors. Register for these sessions.
Are you interested in Alternative Grading approaches? Check out the materials from the session on Alternative Grading at GW, which highlights GW faculty who are using mastery-based grading and labor-based grading. Check out the materials from this session.
Program Directors may be especially interested in this slide deck, Why Program-Level Assessment Matters, and How Your Course Fits Into It by Karen Froslid Jones, GW's new-ish Associate Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment. View the slides.
Last, but not least, it's time to apply to participate in the annual Course Design Institute (CDI), a one-week intensive program for GW faculty that lets you learn and collaborate with faculty peers from across all of GW. This year's CDI will be fully online with the option of attending two days on-site in Foggy Bottom. View the details and application form.
