Tapping Tomorrow’s Rabbis

Aiming to address the growing deficit of rabbis in North America, Hebrew College has been awarded a significant grant from a private foundation to work against this trend by embracing this relational approach to Jewish leadership development and systematically identifying and mentoring young people who may be interested in joining the rabbinate. The grant will fund Hebrew College’s new “Tapping Initiative”, designed to support and mentor young people who may be interested in pursuing a rabbinic path. As part of the grant, an initial recruitment stage will enable the college to partner with Jewish leaders across the United States and Canada to locate and “tap” potential future rabbis from within their communities.

We have recently experienced — and will continue to experience — large-scale, global changes to our leadership, climate, and economy. God knows it’s tempting to look around and wonder what impact we as single individuals may have on our world. In the words of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, God needs us to bring about the reality that God desires. In his book Abraham Joshua Heschel: The Call of Transcendence, Rabbi Shai Held glosses Heschel’s innovative theology: “God will not redeem the world alone, but instead waits for human beings to participate in that work.” May we find strength in those around us, spiritually armed with justice and love.

“Reuven Rubin” Art Exhibit Opening

More than 50 guests attended Hebrew College's winter art exhibit opening “Reuven Rubin: An Interpretation of the Story of King David”, featuring lithographs by renowned Israeli artist Reuven Rubin that tell the story of the biblical King David. We are honored to have received this folio as a donation to our permanent art collection by Mike Gildesgame (pictured top left with Deb Feinstein, Hebrew College Arts Committee Chair.)
