Radford University Athletics and Radford alumni-owned Kindred Spirit Brewing have partnered to license an official craft beer befitting of Radford University and the New River Valley called “Exit 109.” Highlanders can raise a pint to Radford University at one of two planned launch events coming up in August, including:

The Exit 109 Richmond Launch on Sunday, Aug. 16, at Kindred Spirit Brewing, located at 12830 W. Creek Parkway in Richmond, Virginia (registration is required for this event).
The Highlander Fan Fest on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the Dedmon Center Practice Field on Radford University’s main campus.

Radford University’s College of
Nursing partners with VCOM on interprofessional simulation

Radford University College of Nursing students recently partnered with students from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) for an interprofessional training experience focused on communication during laparoscopic surgery. The exercise, which took place on the VCOM campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, utilized a laparoscopic surgery trainer designed and built by VCOM students.

This kind of collaboration allows students to work together in a simulated environment before they work together in the real world.

That way, they are aware of all the roles on a healthcare team before they start their careers, helping to improve patient outcomes.

Radford University is dedicated to providing these kinds of collaborative experiences to our healthcare students, including through the Raymond N. Linville Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice, which serves as a hub for interprofessional education and collaborative practice in the Waldron College of Health and Human Services.

CITL offering new faculty orientation

The Radford University Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning is pleased to offer New Faculty Orientation for both full and part-time faculty members.

Full-time faculty members can attend orientation Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 10-11, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. each day in McConnell Library 230 and Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Selu Conservancy.
Adjunct faculty members can attend an orientation via Zoom on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5-7:30 p.m. at https://radford.zoom.us/j/96344570856 (Password: 123765).

Volunteers needed for
Tartan 5K in September

Not planning to run in the Tartan 5K: A Twilight Run in Roanoke on Friday, Sept. 18? You can still be part of the excitement by volunteering. The Division of Student Affairs at RUC is looking for employee volunteers to help with a variety of race-day activities, including the information station, start/finish line, parking, course marshaling, race activities and cleanup.

Volunteer on your own or sign up as a department – it's a great way to support the event and show your Highlander spirit.

Set a course for a semester of smooth sailing on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from noon to 1 p.m. at Radford University Carilion in Roanoke. Join the RUC Library, the RUC Highlander Success Center and the RUC Office of Student Affairs in Room 501 and in the library for giveaways, snacks, make-your-own badge reels and the launch of the new Mindful Lab, a reimagined tutoring and wellness space. All employees and students are welcome.

Planning a campus interview that involves candidate travel? Here is a quick summary to ensure your search proceeds smoothly from the Radford University Controller’s Office.

Pre-approve: Document your funding source and estimated costs first in Emburse.

Direct-Bill: Use Enterprise, DGI Travel and The Highlander at Radford, Tapestry Collection by Hilton for direct billing. Candidate airfare must be booked through DGI Travel, Radford University’s travel management company. Otherwise, it is a personal expense for the candidate.
Communicate: Provide candidates with clear itineraries and policy summaries before they travel.
Reconcile: Submit expense reports within 30 days of travel completion.
