What is a personal piece of advice (business advice/saying/quote) that you lean on and could pass on to others?
Health, Time, and Wealth: all in that order. Those priorities compete with each other and it's crucial to optimize for all 3. If 1 area is deficient, life can be miserable.
Best business book you’ve ever read?
The World Is Flat by Thomas Friedman. It's a bit outdated now but the book got me thinking about things differently. It sparked me with the hope that I could someday run a business "virtually" with minimal overhead. This was back in 2007 before virtual was cool.
One misstep you took in your business that you could caution others about?
In the earlier days, I was bad at controlling the volume of business. I was taking on smaller matters that I should've punted on. The financial upside is not worth the added complexity associated with managing more accounts. And smaller accounts tend to be higher-maintenance. I prioritized on attracting and retaining larger matters and it's made massive differences. It frees up considerable time.
How to you de-stress after a particularly hard day?
I train in the morning to prepare for the day. If the day is especially bad, I'll reserve a table for my wife and I at one of our favorite restaurants and enjoy some wine and time without the kids.
What’s something about you that would surprise everyone reading this?
I'm addicted to crypto. I love it, can't learn enough about it. It's an exciting field. I'm also an all-American decathlete (2002).
What part of EO are you most looking forward to?
Running questions by people similarly situated. Also the social aspects.
Any exciting plans for 2022?
