Having just crossed our priority deadline of Feb. 1, below are some enrollment updates from Dannette Gomez Beane, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Communications.
|
|
|
- Since Aug. 1, we have 1,667 undergraduate prospective visitors to campus compared to 1,015 last year — a 64% increase.
- Undergraduate deposits to main campus are at 260 freshmen and 79 transfer compared to 240 freshmen and 48 transfer last year, respectively.
- To date, we have 219 students registered for the first Highlander Day versus 64 students registered this time last year.
-
With the FAFSA moving to a March release of data date, our team is making adjustments to our cycle by releasing aid packages most likely in April and not March.
- We are keeping all event dates as scheduled (including Highlander Days and Quest) and doing our best to answer any questions about aid.

Important Information from the Office of Financial Aid |
|
|
With the spring semester now underway, the Radford University Office of Financial Aid wants to share some important information.
|
|
|
-
It is time to file the FAFSA 2024-2025. Please encourage students to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, but no later than Radford’s March 1 priority application deadline.
-
The FAFSA for 2024-2025 is very different than prior years. Many students and families are encountering issues that cannot be resolved by financial aid offices. If students are not able to complete and submit the FAFSA, please encourage them to file a ticket with the Federal Student Aid Helpdesk for support.
-
The Office of Financial Aid will be hosting several opportunities for students to meet with a financial aid team member to work on completing the FAFSA. To learn more about when and where students can meet with the team, visit the Office of Financial Aid webpage.
-
All financial aid recipients are expected to meet the satisfactory academic progress standards to be eligible to receive financial aid for future academic years. Encourage students to read the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy and understand what is expected of financial aid recipients.
-
Summer financial aid review is starting the week of Feb. 5. Please encourage students to register for their summer coursework as soon as possible.
-
All financial aid information is available to view in OneCampus 24/7. The Office of Financial Aid launched the financial aid dashboard in late December 2023, providing a comprehensive overview of financial aid status and requirements. Please encourage students to check out the financial aid dashboard on One Campus —scroll down to the dashboard button on the One Campus homepage.
-
All institutions were notified on Jan. 30 that FAFSA data will not be available to schools until mid-March 2024. This is another significant delay in the FAFSA process for 2024-2025. Financial Aid is now waiting on a realistic timeline and the related announcements from software vendors to provide updated information to students. The bottom line is this will be one of the most challenging years in history to administer financial aid. Financial Aid staff are working hard to provide accurate information based on what is known at each point in time. The Office of Financial Aid webpage is the best place to receive the most up-to-date information about what we know. Please use it as a resource when working with students.

Glen Mayhew Receives the 2024 William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Service |
|
|
Glen Mayhew, D.H.Sc., Interim Associate Provost for Radford University Carilion, has been named the 2024 recipient of the William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Service by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Mayhew accepted the award at the annual CAAHEP Symposium in Jacksonville, FL on Jan. 19.
|
| |
|
The William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Service is the highest honor awarded by CAAHEP.
It is reserved for those who are or have been Commissioners, recognizing an individual who has served the Commission in word and deed, someone who has spoken with conviction about the work of the Commission, advanced its purposes, and actively participated in the Commission’s activities at a high level for a sustained period of time.
CAAHEP is one of the largest programmatic post-secondary specialized accreditors in the country. It accredits over 2,500 programs from 25 different allied health professions both in the United States and internationally.
Mayhew has been actively involved with CAAHEP since the early 2000s. More recently he served on the Board of Director for six years and fulfilled the roles of President and Secretary during that time. Community of Practice on Teaching Constructive Dialogue |
|
|
Prepare students for work and life through teaching strong dialogue-across-difference skills! Plan to join Heather Keith, Ph.D., in a community of practice on constructive dialogue in the classroom.
Wednesday, Feb. 14 | Tuesday, March 13 | Wednesday, April 3
3 – 4 p.m. each day, with in-person and Zoom options
Rather than a book study group, participants will work through the faculty/teaching version of the Constructive Dialogue Institute’s “Perspectives” online course (60-90 minutes of “coursework” for each meeting) and then discuss how you might teach students to engage in civil and constructive discourse about relevant, controversial, meaningful and newsworthy topics.
With the general election coming up this fall, spring is a good time to explore how faculty can engage people with different perspectives in collaborative work that lets our community solve problems and move forward together. This series is sponsored by Faculty Development, The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) and the Civil Discourse Steering Committee.

Fridays, Feb. 23 | March 22 | April 19 | May 17
3 – 4 p.m., via Zoom
Winfrey will be working on a game for UNIV100 and would love the input of other UNIV100 instructors. This group is open to any interested parties.

Update from the Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants Management |
|
|
Radford University’s Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants Management (SPGM) is changing to how the office supports the dissemination of funding opportunities from external grants.
For the past 15 years, SPGM has leveraged the ProQuest PIVOT grant opportunity database. Effective later this spring, SPGM will no longer support the PIVOT platform, terminating the university’s contract. You can still use PIVOT’s search engine on their main homepage to find funding. However, all accounts in PIVOT will be deactivated.
This is a strategic change as Sponsored Programs will now work with an external consulting firm, Hanover Research, to provide expanded grant prospecting and writing support services.
SPGM will also take a more hands-on approach in identifying potential sponsors using other resources. While this change leads to a short-term inconvenience for current PIVOT users, SPGM feels it is necessary.
