Note from Daan

On Wednesday, April 3, Nazareth held its second ever Giving Day. We asked the extended Nazareth family to show their support for our students and programs through donations within 24 hours. The result was an outpouring of generosity, support, and pride. Not only did we exceed our goal of 1,400 gifts with a total of 1,680 gifts, we raised $487,156 for initiatives like student financial aid, athletics, the new Golisano Training Center, and the annual fund.

April has become the month to officially welcome our admitted students on campus. This Sunday, we celebrate 100 presidential scholarship recipients and Young Scholars at the Presidential Scholars brunch. On Monday, we host more than 200 incoming students and their families on campus for our second #NazBound event. Students will attend information sessions and classes, eat in the dining hall and even catch some entertainment. I encourage you to greet families, answer questions, and offer directions to anyone who may look a bit lost.

Lastly, today is the final day of Graduate Student Appreciation Week. We have almost 800 graduate students here at Nazareth who contribute scholarly work, serve as graduate assistants throughout the College, and are part of the fabric of this community. Thank you to Graduate Admissions and Academic Affairs for hosting this week’s events and celebrating our graduate students and all they bring to this campus.

Announcements

Composer in Residence

Nazareth’s Music Department just wrapped up a three days of events with composer-in-residence Lori Laitman, the world-renowned Jewish composer. Laitman has been described by Fanfare Magazine as "one of the most talented and intriguing of living composers." She has composed multiple operas and choral works, and over 250 songs, setting texts by classical and contemporary poets (including those who perished in the Holocaust). The residency concluded Thursday night with a concert of faculty and alumni in Glazer Music Performance Center’s Beston Hall.

CARS 2019

We are excited to host the eighth annual Creative Activity and Research Showcase (CARS) on April 16. It showcases the scholarly and creative achievements of Nazareth students. For the second year in a row, CARS will be a full-day celebration. We will suspend undergraduate classes (before 6 p.m.) and the daytime portion will include projects by both undergraduate and graduate students. The evening hours will feature programming specific to graduate students. In total, CARS 2019 will showcase 175 projects presented by over 375 students who will display their work in a variety of formats, including performances, posters, and presentations. I hope you are as impressed as I am with the many achievements of our students.
