Dental health is an important aspect of every child’s overall health, enhancing or detracting from their ability to eat, speak, breathe properly, and form social bonds. For some children though, dental care can be hard to find. This is especially true for children with special health or developmental needs as well as those covered by Medicaid insurance. To help fill that gap, pediatric dentist Dr. Ashley Anderson is now accepting referrals to CHKD Pediatric Dentistry, a new practice within our Plastic and Oral Maxillofacial division.

About Dr. Anderson

Dr. Anderson, a proud Hampton Roads native, earned her dental degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry. She went on to complete an intensive two-year pediatric dentistry fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she received specialized training in caring for children’s dental needs. Her practice will focus on preventive services such as cleanings, sealants, and fluoride treatments and restorative care such as fillings, crowns and extractions on healthy children age 6 and under with Medicaid insurance, the cleft and craniofacial population, and special needs children who still have pediatric dentition. She will offer sedation, pain management, and customized treatment plans to address specific needs. She is also happy to discuss appropriate referrals for older children with special needs whose referral pathway may not be clear-cut.

Appointments and Referrals

Dr. Anderson will offer appointments in two locations: the CHKD Health Center at Fort Norfolk, which is located across Brambleton Avenue from the main hospital campus, and at the CHKD Health and Surgery Center at Concert Drive in Virginia Beach, which is located near the Virginia Beach amphitheater. This year’s course features didactic lectures by renowned experts in chest wall reconstruction from around the country, including Dr. Nuss. Additionally, there will be an interactive hands-on workshop where surgeons can observe the latest instruments and technology to enhance patient care for those with chest wall deformities. On the second day, there will be a concurrent breakout session tailored for allied health professionals and managers, focusing on establishing and maintaining a pectus program while optimizing patient care. There will also be opportunities for individual surgeons to submit interesting cases for group review and discussion by the expert panel.
