New Members/Confirmation/Reception Course: The next round of classes for new or returning adult members of the parish, as well as adults who would like to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church from another denomination, will take place on Saturdays, May 1 and 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both sessions will be led by the parish clergy. Those who have completed a portion of the course in the past are also encouraged to participate. To sign up, contact Tish Mills in the Parish Office. Please note that the Right Reverend Carl W. Wright, Bishop Suffragan for the Armed Forces and Federal Ministries, is scheduled to visit Christ Church on the Day of Pentecost, Sunday, May 23. Bishop Wright will confirm or receive those who have completed the course that day.
Eastertide Study Series: Loving as God Loves: This special study series, led by parishioner Tiffany Clark, will continue on Monday, May 3, at 6:00 p.m. Click here to register, access the Zoom link, and add to your calendar. Participants will contemplate the intimate moments Jesus shared with his disciples in the days between his Resurrection and Ascension, entering into these interactions as both observers and recipients of God’s love. Each session will include time for individual reflection and group discussion.

May 10: Restoring Relationship (John 21:25)
May 17: Staying Present (Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:1-11)
Upcoming Changes to Worship: On the Second Sunday after Pentecost, June 6, we will make another move toward greater normality in our liturgical schedule and practice. Changes will include the following:
* Pre-registration for in-person worship will no longer be required. Attendees will still be asked to sign in at the entrance to the Church/Chapel Garden and complete the Diocesan Covenant for Regathering.
* An additional celebration of the Holy Eucharist will take place each Sunday, at 9:00 a.m., in the Chapel Garden. According to current diocesan policy, congregational singing (with masks) is now permitted at outdoor, in-person services.
* Morning Prayer will take place at 11:15 a.m. on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.
* At all celebrations of the Holy Eucharist, the clergy will administer the Sacrament—still in one kind (that is, the host alone)—directly into the palms of communicants from two standing stations at the foot of the chancel steps. The clergy will sanitize their hands in advance of the distribution, and hand sanitizer will be available for those who desire it.
Flower Memorials: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, please contact the Parish Office. Gifts are typically made in memory of deceased relatives and friends. Flower memorials are printed in the appropriate service leaflets, and the names of the deceased are included in the Prayers of the People. If you have arranged for a flower memorial in the past, please contact the Parish Office to confirm that you wish to do so once again this year.
Recordings of Services and Events: All virtual services as well as recordings of forums and other educational offerings may now be found at a consolidated location on the parish website.
Help Wanted: Were you hosting Zoom calls before the rest of the world caught on? Have you ever live-streamed an event on Facebook or YouTube? Or do you just know a bit about broadcasting and want to put that expertise to good use? We are in search of tech-savvy volunteers who would like to help bring worship at Christ Church to a wider audience. With the upcoming installation of cameras and other equipment, we will begin to livestream the 11:15 a.m. Sunday liturgy and, in due time, Choral Evensong, opening our doors to visitors and parishioners who are unable to attend in person. Although the new system will be relatively user-friendly, we seek creative people who are comfortable with technology. To learn more or to volunteer, contact parishioner John Alexander, who has kindly agreed to coordinate this new ministry.
Parish Office Hours: The Parish Office is open for telephone inquiries. Members of the staff are available Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In an effort to protect both parishioners and staff, in-person visits are discouraged until further notice.

Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place this Sunday, May 2, at 5:00 p.m. The liturgy will feature music for men’s voices by Joseph Barnby, Stephen Cleobury, Gary Davison, and Richard Webster. Subsequent services will take place on Sundays, May 16 and 30. For the time being, Evensong will be sung by a masked, distanced quartet. Advance registration through the parish website is requested.
Five o’clock Eucharist: The 5:00 p.m. Eucharist, which, under normal circumstances, is held in the Chapel of Saint Jude, has resumed in the Church. During the month of May, this celebration of the Eucharist will take place on second and fourth Sundays (May 9 and May 23), alternating with Choral Evensong. Throughout the summer months, the service will be held weekly.
Sunday Worship Registration: Those who wish to attend any Sunday service at Christ Church—8:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and/or 5:00 p.m.—are asked to register in advance. The weekly deadline to reserve a space for you or your household is Friday at 12:00 noon. For more information, contact the Parish Office. NOTE: Although space is limited, we rarely reach current allotted capacity. Those who neglect to register in advance are welcome to attend a service when space is available.
Children's Homily: A brief homily for children is posted each Sunday on the parish blog, Grace under Quarantine. We encourage young people and their families to make time to watch the video.

Women’s Bible Study: This semester, participants in the Women’s Bible Study are reading Care of the Soul, by spiritual writer, psychotherapist, and former monk Thomas Moore, which focuses on the discovery of the sacred in everyday living. The group will meet on Tuesdays, May 4, May 18, and June 1, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., via Zoom. If you would like to take part, contact the Reverend Melissa Hollerith.

Saturday Night Supper, May 1: We need your help! Volunteers and Care Kit support are needed this week to ensure we can serve a socially distanced dinner (outside, grab-and-go style) and also provide a few of the critical necessities that our vulnerable neighbors need for a life on the streets. You can support us in person on Saturday, May 1, or online by either purchasing supplies via the Christ Church Amazon Wish List or by making a financial contribution.
In person: Saturday Night Supper on Saturday, May 1, 4:15–6:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church (1334 29th Street, NW). Masks, gloves, advance sign up, and waivers all required; maximum of eight volunteers, ages 18 and older only, please. Christ Church follows EDOW, CDC, and DC health and sanitation parameters and guidelines. To sign up please email Liza Ballantine by Friday, April 30.
Online: We are hoping to distribute 75 Care Kits for the upcoming May 1 Supper and need your help. Top-five Items for which we would be especially grateful are listed on the Christ Church Amazon Wish List and here: masks, white socks (new), white T-shirts (new), chapstick, granola bar (chewy only). If you prefer to shop elsewhere, items may be dropped off at the Parish Hall, 3116 O Street, during parish business hours prior to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30—please let someone know so that we can be on the lookout! If you prefer to make a financial contribution, thank you! Your gifts sustain this vital CCG community ministry all year long. Emergency Financial Assistance: Parishioners who are experiencing financial hardship due to the health crisis are encouraged to contact the Rector. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of a number of parishioners, he is able to offer support on a case-by-case basis. Please note that all requests for assistance will be kept strictly confidential.
Parishioners Helping Parishioners: As we are all well aware, the coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted many people, particularly in terms of employment. Some have had their hours at work dramatically reduced, while others have lost their livelihoods entirely. The economic, emotional, and spiritual strain on individuals and households is real. In an effort to assist those in need, Vestry member Julia Ainsley has developed a résumé bank where unemployed or underemployed parishioners can post their job materials. Parishioners who are aware of employment opportunities and who wish to access the résumé bank are encouraged to do so. Questions? Contact Julia Ainsley.
