December Mama of the Month
Hi Mamas! I’m Christy McMann, mom to 11-month-old George, and wife to Pat. Our fourth family member is Otto, a labradoodle who takes his doodle nanny responsibilities very seriously and doesn’t even complain about all the hair-tugging and baby kisses.
I’m from Vermont (think rural little ski town) and l had only ever lived in New England before we arrived here. I’ve yet to miss the snow! In a past life I managed marketing for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and then Harvard Business School. I’m not sure what the future holds but for right now I am enjoying my new mom job. I met Pat when he was living in Boston for grad school – but we didn’t actually meet for the first time until we both found ourselves in New Delhi, India, for a school project. I had never imagined that I’d have to go to India to meet the love of my life, but when we started chatting on a bus to the Taj Mahal, I should have known.
The Navy brought us to Norfolk a little over a year ago. I dove into prepping the nursery and settling in as quickly as I could before baby arrived. I was nervous about having a baby without a lot of friends and family nearby, especially since I knew my husband would be deploying soon after our son was born. I was so excited to discover FIT4BABY and the wonderful community of moms who made me feel right at home.
I love Stroller Strides so much that I regularly mess up our nap schedule for it. That’s the highest praise I can think of during this season of life. Even when I’ve been up half the night, my days are always better when I get outside for a workout with everyone. I also surprised myself by joining Run Club and ran my first 5k ever, stroller and all. The group kept me motivated and I ran farther than I ever expected I would. I am so thankful for this welcoming and supportive community – it truly is a village. I couldn’t have survived COVID, a deployment, and a new baby without you all!
