Remote or hybrid work doesn’t have to mean your audio and video quality suffer. Here are some gear recommendations if you’re looking for holiday gift ideas or to up your production value.
Headsets
Great for Zoom/Webex/virtual conferencing. Using a headset (rather than your computer’s built-in microphone) will cut back on background noise and get the microphone closer to your mouth. Also because you’re wearing headphones, it will prevent the dreaded echo that can happen with speakers. Lastly, avoid using Bluetooth headsets, as they almost always sound as bad or worse than your computer’s built-in microphone. Opt for wired headsets instead.
Webcams
Built-in webcams work well for most purposes, but an external webcam provides an opportunity to improve your video quality and/or camera angle.
Lighting
Extra lighting can help people see you more clearly. This suction cup ring light can attach to the back of your laptop or screen.
