The Clerk's Office Goes Green and High Tech
My office has reached an important milestone in our quest to reduce our environmental footprint while also improving technology for customers. Starting August 1, 2017, all courtrooms went file-less. This achievement was Phase II of my office's "Less Paper Initiative," which marks a huge step forward toward reducing paper waste. From 2010 to 2016, we reduced our annual paper usage by 2,160,000 sheets, which equals $17,000 a year. Using a calculation on ecologically sustainable paper markets, this initiative has already saved 1,554 trees over the last six years and will continue to save at least an additional 259 trees each year on this single initiative.
Now, electronic documents won’t need to be printed and carted into and out of court each day. This increases efficiency in the courtroom, and judges won’t have to flip through pages and pages of documents.
Along with going green in the courtroom, we continue to improve our website. Since the re-launch of our myorangeclerk.com website, we have received more than 6 million views. Our new website is easy to navigate with different media devices, such as tablets and mobile phones, so our information is available at your fingertips. New features are being developed all the time to help you self-serve on your schedule, reducing the need for paper, time, and travel to our locations.
Our office will continue to make technological advancements and ecologically-friendly enhancements to improve the customer experience.
