Campus CommunityOIT is HERE to make COVID-19 processes run smoothly When the University brought students back to campus for the fall semester amid a pandemic, the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) mobilized to assist the COVID-19 Response Unit (CRU) with new processes. For example, as pictured above, the OIT developed the technical solutions and process flows that made surveillance testing possible, and that's just one example. AcademyDenis McDonough nominated for a position in President-elect Joe Biden's Cabinet
Denis McDonough, professor of the practice of public policy in the Keough School of Global Affairs, was nominated by President-elect Joe Biden to serve as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. McDonough, a three-year faculty member at Keough, is directing a Notre Dame research program called the Presidential Transition Index. He was chief of staff to President Barack Obama from Feb. 2013 to Jan. 2017. (More...)

AcademySchool of Architecture believes everyone can learn to draw
The Notre Dame School of Architecture has a simple philosophy: Anyone can be be taught to draw, with enough determination and practice. Giuseppe Mazzone, an assistant professor, teaches the hand-drawing course to first-year students. “I have 56 students, and I don’t want them to all be the same,” he said. “I want them to develop their own style." Student-athletes, staff provide gifts for families in needNotre Dame Athletics, in partnership with South Bend Community Schools, hosted a "Brighter Christmas" gift-giving event. The pandemic turned the normally indoor event at Compton Family Ice Arena into a contactless drive-up event. (More..)

CommunityThe Teddy Bear Toss continues, with a twist
The Teddy Bear Toss, an event that would normally include fans throwing stuffed animals onto the court, or in the case of hockey, onto the rink, still took place, but with fans dropping off donated items this year to Compton Family Ice Arena and Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center. Without the general public at the ND women's game this past Sunday, the stuffed animals had the best seats in the house. (More...)

The College of Arts and Letters communications team got together — via Zoom — to do their holiday service project. The project this year was to make holiday cards to be distributed at Hubbard Hills, an assisted living facility in Elkhart. (More...)
