MARTA Scavenger Hunt by Alumni Promotes Appreciation for Public Transit |
On Friday, Sept. 20, a scavenger hunt will begin in the MARTA train stations. The project, which takes players through multiple stations with clues incorporating the history of the buildings and the people who brought MARTA to life, is designed and executed by Georgia Tech alumni Mira Kaufman (Public Policy and City and Regional Planning) and Owen Rohm (Industrial Design).

New resources for faculty and instructors contain course assets to complement student wellness. There are versions for instructors of students at all levels of study and instructors of first-year undergraduate students specifically.

Shatakshee Dhongde (Economics) participated in the 38th International Association for Research in Income and Wealth Conference at King’s College London, where she delivered a guest lecture at a World Bank training session and presented two papers, one co-authored with graduate student Roshani Bulkunde. The papers examined economic hardships during the Covid-19 pandemic and the overlap of poverty, food insufficiency, and deprivation during childhood in the U.S.

Kate Pride Brown, Allen Hyde, Jennifer Singh, and Yaqi "Sam" Yuan (History and Sociology) presented at the American Sociological Association's annual meeting in Montreal, covering topics such as autism stigma and race; youth advocacy for disaster resilience; pedagogy; and aging and identity. Graduate students Jennifer Nicholas, Sharon Rachel, and Jack Linzhou Xing (History and Sociology), as well as Emma Menardi (Public Policy), organized sessions and presented on race in K-12 and higher education; climate change and inequality; and power and the HIV test.

Usha Nair-Reichert (Economics) presented at the European Economics and Finance Society annual conference in Athens, Greece, and has a paper accepted for presentation at the Association of Indian Economic and Financial Studies sessions at the American Economic Association’s annual meeting in January.

Nationally known speakers will illustrate the impact of the areas represented in our College in TED-style presentations, followed by IAC unit leaders, who will relate how their areas boost belonging, learning, and research our campus. The event will offer a panoramic view of the massive influence of the liberal arts at Georgia Tech and beyond.
