August 5, 2024
Welcome to August—you're officially in the home stretch!
Now that move-in and orientation is just a few short weeks away, we want to make sure you're prepared for everything at the start of the semester and beyond. To do that, we have specific information about orientation in this newsletter, as well as ways to get involved once the semester starts picking up steam—things like a part-time job fair and information on how to vote in this year's presidential election as a college student.
If you still have some questions about the start of your time as an AU student, we've also compiled a list of helpful offices and their contact information for you to reach out to. And, as always, if you don't know where to start, orientation@american.edu is a great place to start.

"As tempting as it is, don't use all your dining dollars early in the semester! From personal experience, you'll regret it later on if you buy an iced vanilla latte from the Bridge EVERY day. Plan your spending wisely!"

| Welcome to AU, transfer students!
This message is just for you! We've planned some special transfer-specific events for Orientation, so keep an eye out for details in the Orientation schedule.
And be sure you're enrolled in the transfer section of AUx (CORE-196), where you'll connect with other transfer students who are navigating the same transition. Welcome, Eagles!
Please contact Diane Palmer, Coordinator of Transfer Student Success, with any questions.

📋 It's an election year! Did you know you can vote by absentee ballot? The process differs by state (e.g., some states require that students complete a form in person before they leave for school). Library staff works to ensure students know about the processes and can assist you.

🔀 You're still able to add proxies to your student account! Adding a proxy provides family members access to view/pay your bill and access to your educational record, but the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) gives you the ability to control who has access to what parts of your student record. Learn more about FERPA here.

Thank you Eagles for completing your New Student Questionnaire, which helped us help you get registered for classes this fall. We also wanted to thank you for answering our Summer Survey questions as well. We heard you and appreciate you sharing your questions.
