Clemson IE continues to shine nationally, as evidenced by the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of public institutions for graduate (#17) and undergraduate (#11) programs in industrial engineering — the highest ranking of any department on campus. This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our faculty, staff, students and alumni and the unique contributions they are making.
From Jackie Cha’s Early Career Award and Sudeep Hegde’s Safety Award to the many research grants our faculty have received, I am honored to be working with so many successful colleagues. The Department generated over $5,000,000 in FY24 research funding, and we provide a sampling of some recent research grants (Aviles, Khademi, Rahimian and Srinivasan), highlighting the Department’s research mission to address complex problems with impactful research and scholarship.
The success of our Ph.D. candidates is also on display. Several of our students have been recognized for their research contributions, including Arvind Kolangarakath and Rahul Narasimhan. Arvind is helping the broader adoption of MRI systems in ambulances across different regions to improve stroke care, and Rahul is exploring how the human system’s interaction with physical manipulation tasks could influence risk to the human musculoskeletal system. We continue to celebrate the high caliber of scholars that Clemson IE produces.
In our bi-annual newsletter, it is not possible to list all the research productivity of our faculty and students. This winter, we will begin a new “Research Highlights” e-newsletter that will provide a summary of all scholarly articles published and major grants awarded.
As we look to the future, I am confident that Clemson Industrial Engineering will continue to lead the way in research, education and industry collaboration. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
Sincerely,
Kevin Taaffe, Ph.D.
