Giving to our Vision - A Vibrant Future for All, Informed by Science by Fernando Miralles-Wilhelm
As I look to the future and leaving Mason’s College of Science, I have said many times that this new opportunity is bittersweet. It has truly been a tremendous privilege and honor to serve as dean of this extraordinary college. Our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends are among the most talented, resilient, caring, supportive, and hard-working individuals I know. Mason Science will most certainly continue to thrive due to your commitment and “can do” attitude.
As an expression of my gratitude, and in recognition of Mason Vision Day on April 4, I have decided to match donations up to $10,000 to the College of Science Vision Fund. This fund provides flexible and timely support for a wide range of needs across the college. Emergency student needs, outreach activities, and research activities are among the initiatives that the College Vision Fund makes possible.
As an incentive, the College of Science department or unit with the highest percentage of participation (that is, number of donors) will receive an award of $3k in foundation funds for their unit.
Mason Science Patriots, we need your support! Make your donation no later than Thursday, April 4 to qualify for the match. Donations received between now and April 4 will be counted towards your department/unit’s participation.

Her time at Mason is going swimmingly
by Damian Cristodero
Ali Tyler is all about television crime shows. They are, she said, her go-to form of entertainment. Tyler is a junior forensic science major at George Mason University. She picked Mason because of its well-regarded Forensic Science Program and proximity to Washington, D.C., a choice that put her on her preferred career path and also allowed her to flourish as one of the Atlantic 10’s best all-around swimmers. Knieriem has done an exemplary job of not just fulfilling her responsibilities, but doing so with a smile, collegiality, respect, and enthusiasm. With a clear manifestation of patience, maturity, and professional attitude, she addresses issues, like lab flooding, quickly, without causing too much interference to the students to be able to do what they needed to do.
