Hands-Free Ordinance
Heads-up Huntsville – starting July 1, the City’s revised hands-free ordinance will be enforced within the city limits. Huntsville Police will now consider violations involving handheld wireless communication devices as primary offenses rather than secondary ones. This proactive measure aims to enhance accountability among drivers, prioritizing their safety and that of others on the road. By curbing distracted driving, we anticipate a decrease in traffic accidents, resulting in fewer fatalities and injuries.

Building a Better Bike Network
One of the best things about Huntsville is the myriad opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and our beautiful natural resources. While the City has plenty of greenways and trails, there needs to be a safer roadway network for bikers who commute to work, school or shopping areas. To that end, the Huntsville Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will host a public forum on Wednesday, July 24, from 4-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 600 Governors Drive. An online survey and interactive map have also been created to give riders a chance to share feedback.
