MAKE A DIFFERENCE

6th Annual
DAY OF SERVICE
Wednesday, Oct 7th: 11:30 am - 1:30pm
Let's work together to improve our communities. Join us for the 6th Annual Cypress College Day of Service. We'll be by the pond. Discover local ways to give back and groups that are doing so. Brought to you by A.S. & the Honors/Service Learning Club. A blood drive sponsored by Be the Match and Cedars Sinai will also be on-campus the 7th & 8th. All donors will receive a t-shirt or a coupon for a pint of Baskin Robbins ice cream. Your donation counts!
1 donor = 4 lives saved.

FROM THE PRESIDENT
As fellow members of the family of community colleges, we have a profound sense of the significance of Thursday's tragedy in Oregon.  Our deepest sympathies are with the members of the Umpqua campus community following this horrific attack.
Preparing for such a scenario is the most solemn responsibility we have at Cypress College. Perhaps most troubling is the knowledge that there is no simple or single method of prevention.  We engage in training and drills, such as the active-shooter scenario we focused on earlier this year, to prepare for such emergencies.  We do so in collaboration with local law enforcement and emergency response organizations.  But we know that is not sufficient. It is our responsibility as leaders to engage faculty, students and staff to be watchful and aware.  We are constantly on the lookout for warning signs.  We emphasize the fact that the single most important thing members of our College community can do as individuals is to follow this simple request:
if you see something, say something.

Details of our plans are available for all to see and can be found on our news site.

We believe strongly in training and effective communications to assure that our campus community is aware of, and engaged in, all situations that may represent a threat to their safety. Clearly and painfully, there are factors beyond our control.  At the same time, we are committed to sharing information, continuing conversation, and remaining vigilant so that if we are called upon to act, we will do so immediately and effectively.

ART IN CAMPUS SPACES

Have you seen? We have a number of beautiful sculptures on display throughout the campus. Last week four additional pieces were installed at locations across the College Gateway. We hope you will find a moment to view the most recent results of our Art Department's collaboration with the Orange County Museum of Art and the Laguna Art Museum. A group show of contemporary art curated by Matt Gleason. The exhibit centers on the work and influence of the late Chris Burden who passed away earlier this year at the age of 69.
