Softball: Cox turns double play, Centennial clinches first district title in 19 years

FRANKLIN – Makayla Cox fielded a fly ball in left field and launched an absolute rocket toward home plate Sunday. Catcher Sarah McLeod made the tag and the Centennial High School softball team clinched its first district title since 2004 as the Cougars fended off top-seeded Brentwood 2-1 in the District 11-4A final despite the Bruins loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh – twice.
“We knew it was going to come down to the wire,” said Cox, one of seven seniors for Centennial. “They all have against them, but we knew we could do this. We just knew it.”

BRENTWOOD - The Brentwood High School boys’ lacrosse team was victorious in its Tennessee Scholastic Lacrosse Association Division I-AA Semifinal game against Franklin at James C. Parker Stadium on Saturday.
The game marked the second time Brentwood defeated Franklin this season, as the Bruins took down the Admirals 12-7 in Brentwood on March 31.

At a meeting Thursday morning, the Franklin Civil War Historical Commission voted to recommend that the Board of Mayor and Alderman move forward with erecting markers memorializing African American lynching victims from Reconstruction and Jim Crow era Williamson County.

On Thursday morning, Williamson, Inc. held a ribbon cutting celebrating the grand opening of Prime IV Hydration & Wellness, an IV therapy business, at Old Hickory Boulevard in Brentwood.

Within the United Methodist Church leaders, teachers, missionaries and organizers, it is women who have shaped the history of Methodism. Women are leading and serving their communities and initiating important social and political reform.
Clergywomen have been part of Methodism since John Wesley licensed Sarah Crosby to preach in 1761. Although women were ordained in the Methodist tradition as early as the late 1800s, it was the May 4, 1956, general conference vote for full clergy rights that forever changed the face of ordained clergy.

BGA offering wide range of camps for school-age children beginning May 30

Battle Ground Academy is offering a wide range of summer camp programs for rising kindergarten through 12th grade students. Camps will begin on May30 and are open to all students in the community.
The school has over 40 camps with half-day and full-day options including art, cheerleading, coding and soccer. Led by qualified faculty, staff and coaches, the summer camps give students a chance to hone their athletic abilities, spark their creativity, or discover a new passion.

Margaret Evans, 99, (also known as Marge to many) was born in Mckeesport, PA on April 12, 1924, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2023.
She spent much of her childhood with little to nothing and didn’t get anywhere in life without fighting for it. She grew into a very proud and classy woman with an unwavering independence and, as a devout Catholic, had a passion for her faith.
