Dear Friends and Family,

If you've been following my painting, you know that the Everglades and Big Cypress Preserve hold a special place in my heart. I've spent a great deal of my time in the studio working with oil paints as opposed to pastels. 

Over the past few months, I've been exploring new visual ways to represent the landscape around South Florida. Instead of pursuing realistic portrayals of the cypress trees, strands and domes, I've been pushing to create more abstract representations which has provided me with more freedom and fluidity in the process of painting. This approach is exciting for me, as it's about responding to what's on the canvas in the moment as opposed to painting according to a preconceived idea.
