Dear Colleague, It’s been just six weeks since I joined UCSF, and I have enjoyed visiting the different campuses, particularly Parnassus Heights. I am proud to see that Financial and Administrative Services (FAS) teams continue to collaborate and invest in projects and spaces that improve everyday life at Parnassus Heights.
In Millberry Union, tower elevators are running better than before, and gender inclusive restrooms on the first floor are more welcoming. You can enjoy an amazing view of the Golden Gate from the Palio’s Caffé space, which has been temporarily converted into an employee break space or from a treadmill in the re-opened Millberry Fitness Center. Fresh landscaping and bright planters mark multiple entrances, and Saunders Court right behind the now-opened Clinical Sciences Building provides the perfect spot.
I look forward to sharing more work by FAS teams in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
Erin S. Gore Senior Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration
PS. Join me this Wednesday, March 23 (noon-1pm) for the Future of Parnassus Heights Town Hall to hear the latest progress and vision to modernize the campus. I hope to see you at the “Experience Parnassus” exhibit – an immersive, 3-dimensional experience about the new, state-of-the-art hospital.

Outdoor Seating at Saunders Court
Saunders Court has been temporarily transformed into an inviting outdoor space to enjoy your lunch or meet colleagues in the Parnassus Heights “sun.” The metal fence that previously designated this area for construction was removed, wood chips put down, and picnic tables and other seating installed. This outdoor area is scheduled to be open through July 15, 2022, when the fences will go back up and the area reverted into a construction staging space for an upcoming HSIR seismic safety project.

New Shuttle Stop Location & New Connections to BART
As part of a master plan to make shuttle stops more convenient to a larger percentage of users and also to prepare for upcoming construction, the shuttle stop at 401 Parnassus Ave (at LPPI) has permanently relocated west to 521 Parnassus - in front of Clinical Sciences Building directly across from the current UCSF Library stop.
For BART users, please enjoy a new Blue and Gold UCSF shuttle stop at the Civic Center station that will take passengers to Mission Bay or Parnassus via Mt Zion. The Lime shuttle also stops at the 16th & Mission station during commute hours to take passengers to/from Parnassus Heights.
For more information on shuttle maps and schedules, visit shuttles.ucsf.edu or the UCSF mobile app.

Now Open - Parnassus Heights Integrated Center for Design and Construction
In preparation for the planned modernization projects, the Integrated Center for Design and Construction (ICDC) was built in a section of the Millberry Union garage right below the Kalmanovitz Library. The new facility will house hundreds of designers, project managers and construction engineers who will be managing the construction of the new hospital and the Parnassus Heights Research and Academic Building (PRAB) projects. New exterior windows were added to allow natural light into the space, and a new exit path was installed from the building extending down to Irving Street.
For more information about the ICDC contact newhospitalPH@ucsf.edu.

Irving Street Bike Cage Reinforced
Bicycle commuters rejoice! The bike cages located at the Irving Street entrance to the Millberry Union garage have been upgraded for both access and security. As many as 200 bikes can be stored in the reinforced space, which includes wider doors to accommodate oversized bikes; new door locks, handles, and card readers; steel plates around entrance doors; and a structural steel and metal mesh enclosure.

Adding Security Cameras to ACC Garage
To further increase ACC Garage safety and security for our employees, learners, patients, and visitors, additional video cameras will be installed over the next few months. Cameras will be installed on five floors - P4, P5, P6, P7, and P8 - to add more visual coverage and deterrence. The cameras will be positioned to provide 360-degree views of the garage elevator lobbies on each level as well as the vehicle ramps.
For more information on the installation, contact Patrick.Borg@ucsf.edu with Facilities Services.

School of Nursing Elevator Modernization
The passenger elevators in the School of Nursing building are the next set of elevators to be modernized as part of a multi-year program to renew 22 elevators at Parnassus Heights. Engineers and maintenance experts are working together to ensure that these busy elevators run reliably, have the most up-to-date equipment, and look good, too.
Upgrades to elevators in the Millberry Union towers were just completed, including refurbishing cab interiors; four elevators in Medical Sciences Building have been completed,as well.
For information about construction and the project, contact Jeff.Costan@ucsf.edu with UCSF Real Estate.

Millberry Union and Clock tower to get a Facelift
Both Millberry Union and the landmark clock tower will get a new coat of paint to add color to Parnassus Avenue. Power washing and new window sealing will be part of the pre-work, as well as some repairs to the building’s façade. Once painted, a protective coating will be applied to seal the building’s exterior preventing future water damage. Scaffolding will be erected soon, and work is scheduled to continue through October 2022.
For more information on the project, please contact Charles.Conway@ucsf.edu with Facilities Services, Infrastructure Programs.

Valet Parking for Employees at ACC Garage
Starting in June, a valet team will park employee vehicles in the ACC garage during peak demand hours/days. Since valet will add a modest amount of parking capacity, please continue to use public transit, shuttles, or other shared modes whenever possible. The planet thanks you! Also note that there are less crowded UCSF parking facilities at the Westside and Beckman lots. Employees who do work exclusively on the Parnassus Heights campus should also consider using non-UCSF parking facilities at: Kezar Lot and 350 Parnassus Avenue Garage. Let’s spread out!
For more information, please contact Transportation@ucsf.edu.
