SPECIAL NOTICES
America250 Lecture: On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 16, at 6:30 p.m., all parishioners and members of the wider community are invited to the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium for a lecture by noted historian Ryan Cole, who will discuss his new book, The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Triumphant Return, the Echoes of Revolution, and the Gratitude of the Republic, published in September 2025. The event is jointly sponsored by Christ Church and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. The registration fee is $10 per person. Register here.
LENT AT CHRIST CHURCH
Dear Friends in Christ,
The Book of Common Prayer calls us to “. . . the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word” (BCP, p. 265). We invite and encourage you, therefore, to consider making these opportunities for worship, Christian formation, and fellowship part of your Lenten practice. We look forward to walking the Lenten journey alongside you.
Faithfully,
The Clergy of Christ Church
Ash Wednesday: The solemn season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18. The Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 6:00 p.m., in the Church. The 6:00 p.m. liturgy will include Gregorio Allegri’s iconic setting of Psalm 51, Miserere mei, Deus, sung by the Choir of Christ Church.
Lenten Devotional Guide: Throughout the season of Lent, we invite you to embrace the way of discipleship given to us by our Lord – turn, follow, learn, pray, serve, worship, and share – through daily engagement with brief passages from Scripture and thoughtful reflections by church leaders. Copies of The Disciple’s Way, are available in the Parish Office. The requested contribution is $5. To make your way through the entire guide, be sure to purchase your copy by Ash Wednesday, February 18.
Parish Lenten Retreat: Are you seeking a deeper life with God? Then join fellow parishioners for a Lenten retreat at the beautifully-renovated Virginia Mae Center on the grounds of Washington National Cathedral. Led by guest speaker James Catford, the three-day gathering will provide ample space for connection with God, both individually and within the context of a small, intimate community of Christ Church parishioners. This year’s theme will focus on the inner life of a public figure. Each day will include recitation of the Daily Office, contemplative talks, individual guided prayer, and small group sharing. Although registration for the full weekend is now closed, there is still space for Saturday-only retreatants. To register, click here.
Centering Prayer in Lent: Are you looking for a way to experience the presence of God amidst the busyness of daily life this Lent? Then consider participating in a weekly, community-led time of centering prayer and Lectio Divina on Tuesdays, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., via Zoom. Drawn from the monastic tradition, these practices offer an intentional way for individuals to make themselves available to God, acknowledging that “we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.” To join the video call, click here. For more information, contact parishioners Molly Peacock or Lesly Lilly (713.805.5889).
Tuesday Evenings in Lent
This Lent, we invite you to join us for five evenings of fellowship and formation: February 24, and March 3, 10, 17, and 24. Following a simple supper at 6:30 p.m. in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium, attendees will participate in one of three distinct opportunities for learning. At the conclusion of the evening, all will gather in the Church to recite the brief office of Compline.
Spring 2026 New Members Class: A Path Toward Membership: Would you like to learn more about the Episcopal/Anglican tradition – its history, theology, and practices? Would you like to become more involved in the life of the parish community? Would you like to become a registered member of Christ Church? Then join Father Nate Huddleston for five consecutive Tuesday evenings of learning and fellowship. Register here.
Adult Baptism, Confirmation, and Reception Course: We all come to Christ Church having walked different journeys. If you have not been baptized and would like to be, or if you have been baptized, but not confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church, then this five-week-long course, led by the Rector, will provide an opportunity for you to take the next step in faith. Register here.
Tolkien and Christianity: The Christian Heart of The Lord of the Rings: J.R.R. Tolkien is best known as the author of The Lord of the Rings; less well-known is his abiding Christian faith, which lies at the heart of the book he once called "a fundamentally religious and Catholic work.” Join Father Andrew Stump for a five-part exploration of the Christian ethic of faith and redemption embedded within Tolkien’s mythology that has given his work its enduring power and legacy. Register here.
Questions? Speak with a member of the clergy or contact the Parish Office.

Reconciliation and Spiritual Healing Short Course:
March 8, 15, and 29 at 10.00 am in Keith Hall
Forgiveness and reconciliation are terms that we often honor and imbue with a certain social sense of nobility, but it is impossible to speak about such concepts without also understanding the costs, compromises, and commitments we must face in order to embrace them. What does it mean to be a person of faith committed to a worldview in which forgiveness and reconciliation matter, and how are our perceptions of the world challenged and constructed by the difficult realities of what forgiving and reconciling mean? Please register here.
This 3-week course explores the need for, and the nature of spiritual healing, particularly as practiced through forgiveness, the sacrament of confession, and spiritual disciplines in daily life.
Mar 8: Forgiveness and Reconciliation - a world view that changes us.
Led by the Revd Dr. Stephen Butler Murray
Mar 15: Reconciliation: The Forgotten Sacrament
Led by Revd Canon Dr. Thomas Williams
Mar 29: Forgiveness and Spiritual Healing: Justice, Mercy and Peace
Led by Revd Timothy A. R. Cole MA BD MTh (QHC)
GENERAL NOTICES
Thursday Morning Bible Study: This semester, participants in the Thursday Morning Bible Study are exploring the Revelation to Saint John, an ancient book filled with vivid descriptions and startling imagery – one that shows us God’s world as it truly is. Sessions will take place on Thursdays, February 19, March 5 and 19, April 2, 16, and 30, and May 14, at 8:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. A Zoom option is available. For more information, contact parishioners Ernest Clark or Virginia Mentz.

Parish Forum: The 2025-2026 series, Living Liturgy, will continue on Sunday, February 15, at 10:15 a.m., in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium, with a presentation by Father Andrew Stump: The Liturgy of Ash Wednesday: Why ashes? Penitence as prerequisite for fresh life – in a soul and in a society.

Women’s Bible Study: Join the women of Christ Church as they seek to meet Jesus in the pages of the Gospel according to Saint Matthew. This semester, participants are exploring Christ’s fulfillment of Isaiah’s Messianic prophecies, his inauguration of a kingdom that upends human expectations of greatness, and his calls for participation in that kingdom’s way of life. Sessions will take place on Mondays, February 23, March 9 and 23, April 13 and 27, and May 11, at 6:00 p.m., in the Memorial Room on the third floor of Linthicum Hall. A Zoom option is available. New participants and guests are welcome. For more information, contact Mother Tiffany Clark.

Spiritual Parenting Short Course: How can you keep the promises you make at your child's baptism? Though we cannot determine what spiritual paths our children will choose, we can model and help them grow into an authentic Christian faith. Join seasoned parent Mother Tiffany Clark for an interactive, honest look at what spiritual parenting does (and does not) look like. Sessions will take place on Sundays, February 15 and 22, and March 1, at 10:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. Please register here.

Bite-sized Bible Study: For three more weeks, Bite-sized Bible Study participants will meet in Keith Hall (rather than in Linthicum Hall) joining with those who plan to take part in the Spiritual Parenting Short Course. Please plan on gathering together on Sundays, February 15 and 22, and March 1, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Normal nursery care for infants and toddlers, as well as music formation classes for older children, will be provided in the Parish Hall. For more information, contact parishioners Julia Ainsley, Megan Murton, or Matthew Fredericks.

Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place on Sunday, February 15, at 5:00 p.m. The liturgy will include works by Edward C. Bairstow, Cecilia McDowall, Thomas Tallis, and Randall Thompson. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. A reception follows each service. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Do plan to join us… and bring a friend.

Thrift Shop Update: The Christ Church Thrift Shop, located on the Lower Level of Linthicum Hall, is open on Wednesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on the fourth Sunday of each month in conjunction with the parish Feast (10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) Donations are currently being accepted on Wednesdays during the Thrift Shop’s normal hours of operation or by appointment via the Parish Office. Contributions of gently-used clothing and costume jewelry are needed at this time.

Mission Trip to Kenya: Sponsored by the Centre for Urban Mission, an educational outreach of the Anglican Church in Africa, this immersion experience is designed to open participants’ eyes to human experience in a context radically different than their own and to develop their capacity to respond strategically. A contingent from Christ Church will serve in a variety of local ministries currently operating in Nairobi's Kibera Slum. Participants will worship, serve, and eat alongside Kenyan Christian partners, sharing in the joyful communion of saints and learning from each other along the way. The mission trip will take place June 18 to 28, 2026. For more information, contact Mother Tiffany Clark. Registration closes on March 1. Register here

Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $150.

Lost and Found: Might you, or a family member, have dropped a mitten or left something behind in church? Our bins are overflowing! Please take a peak in the bin outside Keith Hall and the one outside the Nursery in Linthicum Hall to reclaim what is yours. All remaining items will be donated to our Thrift Shop on February 18.
