| Clark and Brueilly Have Article in Journal |
An article by Dr. Kelsie Clark (left), assistant professor of physical therapy, has been published in the Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy. Dr. Kevin Brueilly (right), professor of physical therapy and department chair, is co-author. The paper outlines the history of physical therapist practice in the emergency department, evolving from an unconventional and previously poorly understood role to a present-day accepted model of healthcare staffing. It introduces the concept of today’s physical therapist graduates working in the ER.

Fleming is Co-Editor of Special Journal |
Dr. Drew Fleming, associate professor of mechanical engineering, is co-editor of a special issue of the ASME Journal of Tribology which focused on orthopedics and biotribology, the multidisciplinary study of friction, wear and lubrication in biological systems. This issue collected 18 contributions ranging from materials development for implants to the contact mechanics of the human body. Fleming worked with co-editors from four other prominent institutions. The issue is online.

Simoes, Leitterman and Balla Perform and Recruit in Brazil |

Dr. Nairam Simoes, Dr. Kristin Leitterman, and Dr. Nicholas Balla, faculty in music, represented A-State during a multi-city academic and artistic tour of Brazil, with professional activities at the University of São Paulo, the University of Campinas, and the Federal University of Paraíba. At Campinas, Simoes and Leitterman were soloists with the university band, while Balla conducted the ensemble and became the first outside conductor to do so. A major outcome of the tour was more visibility for A-State among prospective international students and university faculty in Brazil. The tour included masterclasses, performances, recruitment presentations, collaborative rehearsals, and faculty exchanges.

McLaughlin is Designer for Stage Production |
Jeff McLaughlin, associate professor of theatre design and technology, designed the scenery and projections for Tent Theatre's production of “Around the World in 80 Days,” which Mark Brown adapted from the novel by Jules Verne. Tent Theatre produced the show in the John Goodman Amphitheatre on Missouri State University's campus in Springfield, during the last two weeks of June.

| Bruce Uses Index to Help Military Veterans |
Dr. Scott Bruce, professor of athletic training, and director of research, presented recent work with the Veteran’ Suicide Prevention Program at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposia and AT Expo. He discussed the Global Well-being Index©, originally developed to quantify the effects of previous concussions in college athletes. Bruce explained the project’s most significant finding is that a veteran with an index score of at least 40 has much greater odds of experiencing mental health issues.
