Dear Fords Nation,
I write to you in a time of great uncertainty to assure you that The Haverford School is prioritizing our connection with our community -- our boys who are adapting to a new learning environment, our teachers who are striving to provide engaging and inspiring lessons, our parents who are balancing the needs of their families with the rest that life holds, our alumni who are the living legacy of our institution, and our newly enrolled families who are looking toward what it will mean to be a member of this caring, collaborative, #FordsStrong community.
In that light, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you that in accordance with the recent guidance issued by Governor Wolf due to the increased risk of community transmission of coronavirus, The Haverford School campus will be closed for the foreseeable future and will conduct "Virtual Haverford" until the Governor rescinds his order. While this means that we will not engage in extracurriculars, sports, or community gatherings on campus, we are currently seeking ways to sustain connections virtually. I realize this in no way replaces in-person connection, particularly for our Sixth Formers and our five-year reunion alumni. We hope to reschedule many of these celebrations in months and years to come; in particular, we are exploring ways to conduct virtual moving-up ceremonies for Fifth Grade and Form II, a virtual Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2020, and virtual gatherings for alumni and our newly enrolled families. The School will be in touch in the coming weeks with additional information.
These are uncharted waters, and we’re reaching out to ask you to join us in support and solidarity. As we strive to keep our community connected in this time of remote learning and social distancing, as we nurture our students through changing friendships and relationships, and as our faculty develops new modes of teaching and mentoring, your support matters.
With honesty, respect, and courage, we will prevail. Lean on each other, support your community, and practice self-care. Go Fords!
