Volunteers Needed for Free Tax Prep Program
Volunteers are needed to offer free tax preparation to help working families receive the federal and state tax credits they are eligible for.
The service is offered through the Money in Your Pocket (MIYP) program, a community partnership led by United Way of the Capital Region that is committed to the economic stability of local families. In tax year 2016, 230 volunteers provided free income tax preparation for low- to moderate-income families as part of the Money in Your Pocket (MIYP) campaign, a community collaboration of organizations committed to the economic stability of local families. Volunteers filed 4,389 tax returns, resulting in more than $4.7 million returned to local families. The average annual income for clients receiving tax preparation services was $21,495 and the average return was $1,379.
No previous experience is required and training is provided. Volunteers are also needed to serve as greeters. Scheduling is flexible with daytime, evening and Saturday opportunities available.
Sign up by December 31, 2017 to make a difference in the lives of working families right here in our community!
