November 2018
A warm welcome to our new AmeriCorps Members Shauna Langan and Taylor Norton! Thanks to the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP), we will have their help for the next 11 months. We are very grateful to Taylor and Shauna for generously committing themselves to this year of service.

Shauna grew up in San Diego, where she spent most of her time exploring the beach and hiking outdoors. Shauna graduated from Sonoma State University with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and Planning with a concentration in Energy Management and Design. Shauna believes youth are the key to the future and hopes with her position she is able to learn and teach those around her, students and the larger community. Shauna splits her time between AWG and River Wranglers.
Taylor Norton, Restoration and Monitoring Coordinator

Born and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, Taylor spent much of his childhood exploring the natural beauty of the northeastern United States. Taylor attended the University of Vermont, graduating in the spring of 2017 with a B.S. in Geology and Geospatial Technologies. Taylor is excited to serve and hopes to help protect Alpine County’s beautiful rivers while exploring the Sierras and Tahoe area.
Wander Your Watershed
Looking around at the amazing landscape, plants, and animals in the watershed, you are reminded of the many species which inhabit the place we call home. Some of these species are here year-round, while others migrate during specific times of the year. Among those that migrate in the winter are deer. Since deer rely on the greenery as a food source, they tend to migrate to lower altitudes in the winter months. This month AWG would like you to head out and look for deer in your area, and please email Shauna awg.snap.ed@gmail.com your photos to share on our Facebook page.  Our wildlife reflects the health of our beautiful watershed.

Help AWG Keep Doing All We Do
Giving Tuesday is November 27. Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving in response to growing commercialism around the holidays. It’s a great time to make all your year-end charitable donations. AWG needs your support to protect the meadows, forests, and rivers of the Sierra Nevada in Alpine County. You can donate via credit card or PayPal (on November 27 or anytime) at www.alpinewatershedgroup.org or you can mail your check to AWG at PO Box 2737, Markleeville, CA 96120. Thank you for helping us do all we can to research, restore, educate, and inspire watershed stewardship.
