Winter 2015 Newsletter

Karla's much-anticipated 10th book, Constant State of Leaping, is now available! Published by Texas Review Press, this book is about delving into risks...and unfettered joy.
Using a combination of quotes, mythological images and exquisite metaphors from nature, Morton delivers poems that describe the absolute urgency of giving one's heart over to life, the burning drive to have faith in the world and the insistence that everything, in its own way, is holy.
Cover art for the book was created by Donna Howell-Sickles, a renowned artist and an inductee into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame.

Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster & Grant Opportunities

Karla is proud to be one of the 150 artists and art companies selected for the 2014-2016 Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Texas Touring Roster. The Texas Touring Roster features some of the state’s best artistic talent and is designed to ensure that all Texans may enjoy events and performances by these artists in their local communities.

The TCA does not provide direct funds to artists in the Texas Touring Roster. Instead, TCA provides grants to arts presenters, schools, libraries, theaters, and other nonprofits and government units throughout Texas to help with the cost of bringing in companies and artists from the roster. Presenters may apply through TCA’s Arts Respond Performance Support grant category for a portion of the artistic fees for artists from the Texas Touring Roster.

Information on the TCA Arts Respond Performance Support grant category is available at www.arts.texas.gov. Contact TCA at 512.463.5535 for more information. Organizations interested in applying for a grant from TCA must apply by quarterly deadlines: for performances occurring for performances June 15 through August 31, the deadline is May 1, 2015.
