Fighting hunger and homelessness in our communities are part of our everyday mission at TrueNorth.
November is Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month, and that means even more opportunities for us to engage, assist and inform. For instance, our Senior Thanksgiving Luncheons and Senior Harvest Baskets programs.
Our Senior Thanksgiving Luncheons provided 354 home-cooked meals to seniors and adults with developmental disabilities in two seatings on November 13 at the TrueNorth Service Center.
We received help from more than 80 volunteers, including groups from Gerber Life Insurance Company, ChoiceOne Bank, the Newaygo County Commission on Aging and Transitional Health Services. Sysco Corporation donated 20 turkeys, with the turkeys and meals prepared by Camp Newaygo's Ridge Specialties and our wonderful volunteers. In addition, the Fremont Christian School Choir performed at both sessions and we honored military veterans in attendance.
We made deliveries to the homes of 175 seniors across Newaygo County on November 15 through our Senior Harvest Baskets. The distribution was done by Nestlé Gerber and Fremont Lions Club volunteers, with help packing the baskets by Fremont Christian School middle schoolers.
You can help us help others get back on their feet through the Personal Hygiene Drive being held by our Housing & Family Services Division. Personal hygiene and feminine care products are being collected from now through November 24 at the public libraries in Croton Township, Fremont, Grant, Hesperia, Newaygo and White Cloud and at the TrueNorth Service Center.
