What's new for editors

New SF.gov search engine

Have you tried searching for something on SF.gov lately? You may find your results come back faster and are more accurate!

The Digital and Data Services team recently launched a new website search tool to improve user experience. We replaced the previous search engine with a new Google search solution.

Some new features include:

• Prioritization of SF.gov pages in search results
• Results from sfgov.org and other City websites
• Search terms appear in bold in the search results

Test it out! Try searching for common topics for your division in the SF.gov search box and see the improved results.

Training and support

Self-paced online SF.gov trainings

You can take the trainings at any time, at your own pace. You don’t need to sign up for each training but you do need to fill out a form at the end of each one to verify you’ve taken it. You can get your SF.gov login after taking the 3 required trainings and submitting a sample SF.gov page.

• Working in the SF.gov CMS 
• Meetings on SF.gov (optional)

PUBLISHING TIPS

Best practices

Buttons

You should only have 1 button on a page. And you should only use a button if there is a specific action you want the user to take. Even if you have more actions on the page, you should only have 1 button for the primary action.

Your button can be up to 25 characters long but make it short. Some screen reader users skim through buttons so also make it descriptive.
