Marking a Milestone Love bloomed for Ashlyn Stone '23 and Matthew Pate '23 three years ago in 1L Introduction to Law. On 5/21, standing outside Carnesecca Arena in graduation gowns, the couple posed for one last photo as St. John's Law students before donning gold tasseled tams and joining classmates, families, faculty, and alumni to celebrate Commencement 2023. It's a Wrap On 6/7, the Law School Alumni Association Manhattan Chapter hosted the Hon. John E. Sprizzo Reception at The Players in Manhattan. Hon. Richard J. Sullivan (CA2) was in attendance to receive this year's Hon. John E. Sprizzo Award.
On 5/18, the Law School community celebrated Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month with an event hosted by our Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and South Asian American Law Students Association. The evening's honorees were Nadia Budhai '13, Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, JP Morgan Chase; Evelyn Gong '07, Law Offices of Evelyn Gong, PLLC; Brendon Khan '20, Associate Counsel, Corporate Governance and Transactions, AIG; and William H. Ng '07, Partner, Littler Mendelson P.C.
The Metropolitan Club of New York was a fitting backdrop for the annual Law Review Alumni Reception on 5/17. The program included a farewell to this year's St. John's Law Review graduates and remarks from honorees Samantha Alessi '11, Assistant United States Attorney, U.S. Department of Justice, and Edward Kehoe '90, Managing Partner, New York Office; Co-Head, International Arbitration Practice, King & Spalding.
On 5/16, alumni, students, and faculty gathered in Manhattan for the Mattone Institute's Spring Reception & Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to Cadwalader Partner Fredric L. Altschuler '72, who earned the Alumni Leadership Award, and to J.P. Morgan Asset Management Vice President Maria Castiglie '15, who received the Rising Star Award.

Kudos Congratulations to Hon. Genine Edwards '92, who received the Brooklyn Women's Bar Association Sybil Hart Cooper Award in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of women in law.
Congratulations also go to Hon. Randall T. Eng '72, '16HON. Recently, the Appellate Division, Second Department presented its inaugural Hon. Randall T. Eng Award to Congresswoman Grace Meng of New York's 6th Congressional District. The award recognizes an individual who has served the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities within the Second Department.
In Memoriam The Law School community mourns the loss of Harvey L. Pitt '68. Rising through the ranks at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Pitt became the agency's youngest general counsel at age 30. He then spent over two decades in private practice as a partner at Fried Frank before returning to the SEC as its 26th Chairman (2001 to 2003). For the past 20 years, he served as CEO of the global strategic business consulting firm Kalorama Partners LLC and its law firm affiliate, Kalorama Legal Services, PLLC.

In the latest episode of their Legal Spirits podcast, our Center for Law and Religion co-directors, Professors Marc DeGirolami and Mark Movsesian, discuss the Department of Education's recent guidance on prayer and religious expression in public schools.
Professor Rosemary Salomone's commentary, "Student internationalisation plan may be a model for others," appears in University World News. The commentary focuses on the increasing numbers of international students in the Netherlands and the country's blueprint for addressing the consequent pressures on student housing, course accessibility, faculty workloads, and educational quality.
"Current Developments in Tax Malpractice: Basics and Beyond," an article by Professor Jacob Todres, will be published in the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review.

Throughout his three years at St. John's, Rashad Moore '23 says, he was intentional about crafting an experience that would give him the skills he needs to be an impactful lawyer.
