From the Reading Pile: Radio: What happened to all the advertising?
Northeast
Alexis Shear co-anchors the weekday evening news ("ABC 21 News") with Brien McElhatten at Quincy Media's ABC affiliate/WPTA-TV (Channel 21.1, Fort Wayne). Tonight, Ms. Shear Tweeted that she will be leaving later this summer, along with her husband Adam Shear. Mr. Shear co-anchors Fort Wayne's NBC Today (5am until 7am), on digital subchannel 21.2.
They will be moving to California, where Ms. Shear will become a reporter for KNSD-TV (Channel 39, San Diego).
Brian Walsh now owns both Oldies/WLYV (1450am, Fort Wayne) and FM translator W282CH (104.3fm, Fort Wayne). For over 15 years, he has programmed an oldies format on WIOE. WIOE had several places on the radio dial, but it's been on 101.1fm (South Whitley) for several years now. Over the weekend, Mr. Walsh also added AM Stereo to WLYV 1450am.
Mr. Walsh surprised listeners of 1450am, 104.3fm and 101.1fm this morning and introduced a new morning host: 'Young' Chris Roberts.
Mr. Roberts (and Mr. Walsh) both worked at WOWO (1190am, Fort Wayne) years ago ("Chris Roberts and The Good Morning Team") ("Flyin' Brian"). Mr. Roberts owns several radio stations, including Oldies/WKSD (99.7fm, Paulding, Ohio). Mr. Roberts now simulcasts his morning radio show on "Oldies 101, 1450, and 104.3".

Around this time in 1992, Tom Bair bought WROI (92.1fm, Rochester) from James Zimmerman's Maintou Broadcasting Corporation for $250,000. WROI now airs a Classic Hits format, from a street-side studio on Eighth Street in downtown Rochester.
Mr. Bair will sell WROI to Scott Huber's 3 Towers Broadcasting for $553,000. Mr. Huber owns WSVX (1520am, Shelbyville) and two FM translators: W243CL (96.5fm, Shelbyville) and W292FH (106.3fm, Shelbyville). The sale from Bair to Huber includes the WROI building and transmitter site. No broker on this deal.
Michiana Public Broadcasting's WNIT-TV (Channel 34, South Bend) adds PBS Kids Channel on their .3 digital subchannel.
Former WSBT-TV (Channel 2, South Bend) reporter and weather anchor Mary Costello recently died after a quarter-century battle with Crohn's Disease. Ms. Costello was 42. Visitation will be this Thursday (August 1) from 3pm until 6pm Central Time at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division Street, Green Bay, WI 54303, with a memorial service to follow at 6pm. Here's the complete obituary.
Nick Deranek becomes News and Content Director for Kensington Digital Media's N-T/WRSW(AM) (1480am, Warsaw) and translator W259BJ (99.7fm, Warsaw) and News Director at Classic Rock/WRSW-FM (107.3fm, Warsaw) and Country/WAWC (103.5fm, Syracuse). Mr. Deranek last worked for Studstill Media in Streator, Illinois, as their News Director.
Central
Greg Petrowich joins as the new leader of Metropolitan Indianapolis Public Broadcasting's NPR affiliate/WFYI-FM (90.1fm, Indianapolis), and PBS affiliate WFYI-TV (Channel 20, Indianapolis). Mr. Petrowich succeeds Lloyd Wright, who spent 30 years as WFYI's president and CEO.
Mr. Petrowich last lead (executive director) at WSIU Public Broadcasting in southern Illinois. Prior stops include KUAC-FM/TV (Fairbanks, Alaska), Alaska One Public Television (He worked for both simultaneously), and KRCU-FM (Cape Girardeau, Missouri).
It was the summer of 2015 that brought iHeart's Sports/WNDE (1260am, Indianapolis) to FM, with the addition of translator W248AW (97.5fm, Indianapolis). Earlier in 2015, crosstown Emmis N-T/WIBC (93.1fm, Indianapolis) ended their relationship with Rush Limbaugh. So, iHeart plugged Rush into the programming schedule over at WNDE, along with making sure WNDE had more chances to attract listeners. iHeart put WNDE on the HD2 signal of Rock/WFBQ (94.7, Indianapolis), along with adding the FM translator.
Recently, that FM translator went silent, leaving devoted sports fans tuning to either HD Radio subchannels (if they have an HD Radio), or tuning to 1260AM. What will become of the 97.5fm translator? Stay tuned.
Emmis' N-T/WIBC (93.1fm, Indianapolis) afternoon hosts Jason Hammer and Nigel Laskowski add the 3pm hour to their radio show (formerly 4pm until 7pm). This move shortens the Data (Loesch) Show on WIBC to 1pm until 3pm.
At Radio One's CHR/WNOW-FM (100.9fm, Speedway), morning co-host Alex Clark exits the "Joe and Alex Show." Later this year, Ms. Clark will begin creating, producing, and hosting a daily conservative pop culture show over at Turning Point USA. Ms. Clark joined "Radio Now" in 2016 after working in Louisville, Kentucky, as MD/Morning Co-Host at WDJX.
Southcentral
Allan Dare exits his midday shift on Reising Radio's Hot AC/ WRZQ (107.3fm, Greensburg) ("QMix 107.3"). The station website lists Brandon now in middays (9am until 2pm).
