Office of Sustainability winter break reminders |
|
|
As we near the end of the semester, you can help Radford University save electricity and prepare for a restful break. Below are some tips to consider before you leave for winter break from the Radford University Office of Sustainability.
|
-
Turn off all lights when leaving offices, laboratories, bathrooms and residence hall rooms.
- Turn down thermostats five degrees but do not turn them off.
|
| |
|
-
Close and lock all windows to prevent damage from frozen or burst pipes.
- Remove all perishable food and unplug micro-fridges if empty.
- Remove all soft-packaged food from offices and residence halls or place items in sealed containers to prevent pests.
- Power down and unplug devices such as cellphone chargers, computers, coffeemakers, lamps, microwaves, monitors, gaming systems, etc.
- Turn off power strips. Remember, even if powered off, devices still pull trace amounts of electricity. Unplugging or powering off power strips prevents phantom load.
- Turn off and unplug space heaters.
- Turn off non-vital fume hood ventilation and close hood sashes in labs and kitchens.

New performance management system launching soon |
|
|
Have you heard? The Radford University Office of Human Resources is introducing a new performance management system in January for classified staff and AP faculty. It is designed to enhance goal setting, provide a mechanism to document regular meetings between supervisors and employees and track professional development for employees across the university.
To support this transition, training sessions for employees, supervisors and reviewers will begin in January. Keep an eye on this newsletter for details on dates and times.
Additionally, please note that Virginia Department of Human Resource Management has changed the review period for classified staff to a calendar year, moving from the previous October-to-October schedule to January through December.
Stay tuned for more details as we approach the launch.
