JUNE 2025

BRIDGE TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT RIDERSHIP UPDATE

Travel in the Golden Gate Corridor by Bridge, bus and ferry remains well below pre-pandemic levels. Fortunately, travel in the Golden Gate Corridor continues to trend upward.
In May 2025, southbound Bridge traffic was 2 percent above May 2024 traffic, Bus ridership was 4 percent above May 2024, and Ferry ridership was 6 percent above May 2024 ridership. The District continues to add back bus and ferry service incrementally as we see a return of our customers travelling in the Golden Gate Corridor.
May 2025 traffic and transit ridership statistics are below:

TOLL AND TRANSIT FARE INCREASES EFFECTIVE JULY 1

Golden Gate Bridge tolls and Golden Gate Ferry and Transit fares will increase on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The increases are part of the District's five-year toll and transit fare programs.
Golden Gate Bridge tolls will increase by $0.50 for most customers, and most regional Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry transit fares will increase by $0.25. Discount fare programs will remain in effect for Clipper users, seniors, youth, persons with disabilities, and low-income riders who participate in the Clipper START program. Marin local bus fares and special event ferry fares will not increase.
The revenue generated through the toll and transit fare increases will allow the District to provide ongoing maintenance of the Golden Gate Bridge, continue Golden Gate bus and ferry transit service, and address a portion of a projected $26.4 million shortfall in Fiscal Year 25/26.

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE MIDDAY LANE CLOSURES

Beginning on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the two center lanes on the Golden Gate Bridge are being closed for roadway maintenance every Wednesday from approximately 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. through early November. Traffic on the Bridge will remain open in both directions, but drivers should expect to slow down around construction zones and may experience delays while the lane closures are in effect.
Maintenance performed will include pothole and asphalt repairs. During the roadway work, the Bridge will be narrowed to two southbound and two northbound lanes. Work is expected to be completed by 1:00 p.m. every Wednesday, at which time the Bridge will be returned to a three southbound and three northbound lane configuration.
Staff will monitor traffic and weather prior to implementing the lane closure and cancel work if necessary. Should the scheduled Wednesday work be cancelled, the lane closure will be moved to Thursday, traffic and weather permitting.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS ADOPTS FY 25/25 BUDGET

At their June meeting, the District Board of Directors adopted the Fiscal Year 25/26 budget. The FY 25/26 budget projects an overall shortfall of $26.4 million primarily due to lower toll and transit fare revenues associated with less post-pandemic commute travel in the Golden Gate Corridor. The proposed budget assumes that District Reserves will be used to balance the budget. The proposed budget also assumes that ridership will return at a slow pace but allows for the restoration of Bus and Ferry transit service at a faster pace if customer demand warrants.
The District's annual budget is a policy document that identifies the strategic direction and priorities of the Board of Directors for the fiscal year. The Proposed Budget is the implementation tool for the Board’s policy directions and initiatives. The budget is developed between December and mid-March based on the policy objectives of the Board and the current assumptions for the demand for District services at the time.
