Milwaukee is in first place in the race for the 2020-21 McCafferty Trophy, given to the all-sports champion of the Horizon League, after the first six Horizon League championships boosted by a League title and two runner-up finishes.

The Panthers have 25 total points after the first six HL championships, a 4-point lead ahead of Youngstown State, as they claimed the women’s cross country title, finished runner-up in both the men’s and women’s indoor track and field championships and earned a share of the regular season title in women’s basketball. MKE holds a strong lead in the women’s standings with 17 points, followed by YSU with nine points. The men’s standings are much tighter as the Penguins lead with 12 points, followed by Oakland with 11 and IUPUI and Milwaukee tied with eight.

Named in honor of James J. McCafferty, who served as the conference’s first commissioner from 1979-80, the McCafferty Trophy is awarded annually by the Horizon League to a member institution compiling the greatest number of performance points, based on its finish in the League’s 19 championship sports.
