Delaware County Starts Sending Out New Tax Assessment Info
Delaware County is in the midst of sending out notices in three waves of tentative property values in conjunction with the county-wide reassessment. Property owners will have just 10 days to sign up for informal hearings to address issues about that valuation. “What’s important to note is you have 10 days from the date on the notice of the letter that you get,” Delaware County Councilwoman Christine Reuther said. “You have 10 days and it’s a strictly enforced limit because we’re going to take down the sign-up options to sign up for an informal hearing if you are concerned that your valuation does not reflect the amount for which you can sell your house.”
In 2017, Delaware County Court of Common Pleas Judge Charles B. Burr ordered a reassessment to address an apparent lack of uniformity in violation of the Pennsylvania Constitution. The data collection stage has been completed, as have the site visits and now, starting February 14th, the county will be mailing out the first wave of value notices to addresses on file with the Delaware County Assessment Office. That will be followed by three waves of mailings about 10 days apart. Property owners who do not agree with the valuation have 10 days to request an informal review of their property by scheduling an appointment by calling 888-773-7056 between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday or by visiting
www.Tylertech.com/DelCo. All informal hearings will be completed by May 15th and the final and updated property values will be sent in July. At that time, formal hearings will begin with the County’s Tax Assessment Appeals Board. All hearings - both the informal and the formal appeals - are free to the public. More information about the reassessment can be found
