IRS Energy Credits Registration Tool Now Available for Car Dealers and Sellers |
The IRS recently launched the IRS Energy Credits Online tool to allow car dealers and sellers to claim Clean Vehicle Tax Credits. The tool allows dealers and sellers to verify their identity and will soon allow them to submit time of sales reports and register for advance payments. Dealers and sellers of clean vehicles must use this online tool to register and report clean vehicle sales that occur on or after January 1, 2024, for those vehicles to be eligible for a credit. This will effectively lower the vehicle’s purchase price by providing consumers with an upfront down payment on their clean vehicle at the point of sale rather than having to wait to claim the credit on their tax return the following year.
